Washington - The Smithsonian It has been almost two months since we came back home from our vacaton in the States. We have been very slow at updating the blog since then. But now, finally, we have the next entry ready for you to read. We hope you will enjoy it. One of the finest, or quite possible the finest, museums in the World is the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. Parts of he vast collections of the Smithsonian Institution are displayed in several museums in Washington DC and elsewhere. One of the days when [View Full Entry]

Easter vacation in the States - a hectic day in Washington DC Easter holiday this year we spent in the United States. We spent part of the time in Washington DC and the rest of the time in New York City. For a change travelling and sightseeing was only part of the reason for the trip. The other reason for the trip was to visit friends from previous travels, namely Harvey and Ivan. We met Harvey a few years ago on a trip we [View Full Entry]

Ecstasy of St Theresa by Bernini
This statue, Ecstasy of St Theresa, was considered very daring in the 17th century. Some even thought it was pornographic.
The art in Rome and the Etruscans I arrived home from Rome one and a half months ago. But I never got around to finish the last blog entry I wrote when I was there. But better late then never so here it comes. The fourth and last blog entry on my trip to Rome. Emma and I try to run regularly to stay fit. Not that we can claim to be any good runners. But we like it and it is good exercise. To get a variation to the training we sometimes also run when we are abroad. We then [View Full Entry]

Various photos While in Rome I have taken some photos that I can't really fit into the other blog entries but I'd still like to share with you. These I post here and I hope you enjoy them. I can write a little about the photos. The photo of the church is not much to write about. It just looks nice in the evening rays of the sun. The second photo is of the Palatine, mentioned on the first Rome entry of the blog. This photo I took a few days after my first visit there. I went there mainly to [View Full Entry]

Fontana di Trevi

Fontana di Trevi - the most famous of all the fountains in Rome
Churches, art, fountaines ...and a lot of dead bodies (?) Today I’d like to start by telling you about the trouble I had the other day when I wanted to buy stamps. As I usually do when I want to buy stamps I go to a post office and say the magic word “Stamps”. This little trick has never failed, until now that is. When I came into the post office in Rome they just looked at me like I was an escapee from the local mental hospital. “We don’t sell stamps here. We are a post office. To buy stamps [View Full Entry]

The Colosseum

From the outside the Colosseum looks impressive
When in Rome - see what the Romans did 2000 years ago Now over Christmas and New Year I am visiting Rome in Italy. To be honest it was not on my top-10 list of places where to spend Christmas. But since affordable flight tickets to other places were scarce this year (and I am a miser) this is where I ended up. But Rome is a wonderful city and I have been planning on going here for several years so I am not disappointed or anything. It's just that December and January are not the best months to visit Italy. Beggers in Stockholm are often organized one way or the other. Here the organization uses a child. That's awful...
From mass murder to plutonium factory Sweden is a very safe country to live and travel in. But of course we have our share of problems too. Since we published one blog entry with the upside Stockholm we would like to balance things and publish one entry focused on the rough and uncut facets of this gem of the Baltic Sea we call Stockholm. We hope you will find this interesting too. Like in virtually all major cities in the World there are homeless people in Stockholm. They are usually not very visible but if you know where to look they [View Full Entry]

Welcome to Stockholm During summer this year we have tried to do some sightseeing in our hometown - Stockholm. We thought it could be fun to publish one entry with photos from here so you can get an idea of what Stockholm is like. Since the majority of the readers of this blog are not from Sweden we thought why not using this forum to advertise Stockholm a little bit. It is a very nice city and it is well worth a visit. In summer that is. Not even we would recommend anyone to come here in winter really... One of [View Full Entry]

Two days visiting Trondheim Norway is a very nice country with wonderful people and astonishing nature. I like Norway a lot but for various reasons I don't visit our western neighbours very often. But now in August I had both the time and the opportunity to visit Trondheim for a few days so I decided to give it a "go". Trondheim is a city with old traditions. For more than 1000 years there's been a sizeable settlement at the estuary of the Nidelva River in the Trondheimsfjord on the west coast of Norway. A long time ago Trondhei [View Full Entry]

Hell
Hell exists!
A hot day in Hell If you have ever been in doubt I can now assure you that Hell exists. I know, I have been there! I can also inform you that it's hot in Hell. So now you know that too. Let's stop pretending why I wanted to go to Trondheim in the first place. OK, Trondheim is a nice town and well worth visiting. But the place I wanted to see most of all was a small village 30 kilometres away. A village named Hell. Because the name sounds so odd in English the village draws quite a few [View Full Entry]
