my visit to Stockholm - From: Stockholm - touristing at home
I want to visit Stockholm. Is this a good time/month? I want to visit the Husvquana Viking Sewing center/factory/museum. Do you know if there is a place like this open for public tours? Thank you, and your city sounds very interesting and exciting. /can't wait. Mary

Could not see neither Knivkjellodden nor North Cape - From: North Norway
Hi Malte and the rest of you, It was such a thick fogg at North Cape so I could not really see anything. I have been to North Cape but I can't really say that I have seen it. And try to see Knivkjellodden would not have been possible either. But now at least I can say that i have been there. And you are right, it is not a place to live neither for people nor for little germs. Ake

Nix. Klättrade inte upp - From: North Norway

We don't wanna go... but our grandpas' would - From: North Norway
We don't understand why anyone would like to go there... it's so could that very few people live up there. Hence there are so few to incubate, that it is hard to spread ourselves. Grandpa' says he would like to see Knivskjellodden instead of North Cape. We think that is odd too. Anyone could can a peninsula - but not anyone can see North Cape!

Klättrade du inte upp? - From: North Norway

Yemen has over the last couple of years been very unsafe for tourists. Several bloody attacks have been directed against tourists. I would myself not go there again anytime soon. Ake

Wow! - From: Ukraine VII - Cold War
Thank you, dear Harvey, for having this forwarded. It is both amazing and so very frightening to read--especially for a "senior" who lived through all the years described and so much history--good and bad. With all the new technology and technological advances, who knows what is ahead. Humans vs. humans brings out the worst in humanity and the bet is sometimes hidden.

Tale of a flight over C - From: Ukraine V - Chernobyl
Thank you for the comment, Harvey. Harvey has made one more comment on this blog entry, but that was in an email sent privately to us. But we liked it so much that we would like others to read it too. Harvey wrote: "In 1987, I flew from Bucharest to Moscow. The flight path passed over Chernobyl and it made me nervous. Since then, much of my hair has fallen out..."

Beautiful photos of Oman. - From: Oman part II - Nizwa, Bahla and Sur
Recently ,I was re-reading a book called "Sons of Sinbad" written in 1939 by Allan Villiers and Australian adventurer/seaman and renowned journalist. He referred in his book to the "dhow port" of Sur. I looked it up on the net and discovered your commentary and beautiful photos. Really impressive and informative. We have a connection with Oman here in Western Australia as our maritime Museum has had a long time research relationship with the Sultanates Maritme museum and the marine history of the region. Sailing is my absolute passion and also the history of sail .So it was my interest in dhows and the annual trade between Oman , Zanibar , Tanzania and the east African coast which brought me to your site. Thanks Mike

Rackarns så nära skolstart - From: Ukraine I - Kiev
Svante

The Inca trail were many trains - From: Peru part II - The Inca Trail
The original Inca Trail was not one trail but a vast network of trails. It's like the road network of any country really. Most of these trails have either disappeared, been abandoned or have been turned into modern day roads. A few of the old roads in the Inca Trail road system have been restored to their original state, mostly for hiking purposes not so much for transport. The trail we took is the most popular one and is the one that most people refer to when they mention The Inca Trail. It is an old trail laid out as part of the Inca Trail System. When it was rediscovered it was cleared from debris and restored to its former state. So it is a real Inca Trail in the sense that it was used as a pilgrimage trail to reach Maccu Picchu. But it was not the only one. There were other trails leading to Maccu Picchu as well. Ake

Stayed there very short time - From: Chongqing, Chengdu, Dazu and Hobbit Town (?)
Hi, I stayed in Chongching only for a day so I didn't really have time to get to know the city. It is a big city and I found it hard to go around on my own. I got lost several times. I would have liked to stay longer because I think there is a lot more to see in Chongching than what I saw. Finding the interesting spots might be a bit difficult though. Ake

communist monuments - From: Russia part II - Back in the USSR
The one with the anchor is the monument to the Krasin icebreaker that sank in 1930's, the hand with a globe is the monument to the victims of the WWII and the tall structure with the Soviet Navy flag is dedicated to the Soviet Navy, i.e. its Northern Fleet. I was born and raised in Murmansk and I really like your blog. You speak plain and hit the nail right on the head. Cheers!

Kan ligga något i det... - From: Peru part II - The Inca Trail
