Water Buffaloes
There're no water buffaloes in Africa. Water buffaloes are found in Asia, and can be domesticated to pull ploughs and carts. The African buffalo cannot be domesticated

Should I be getting my moves ready to dance down the aisle at your wedding? I took dance ages at university and have been watching "Dancing with the Start," so it wouldn't take me long to get a routine ready??!! Actually, I'll sign us up for lessons right away. Lots of love Mum

Great to see you
Talking to you on Skype was awesome, Orla. You look so good, the life is obviously agreeing with you. I can't believe we talked for so long. The area you are working in now looks lovely and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay there. We are having a spot of nice weather here now too, finally, and we can see blue sky for a change. Off on a bike ride soon. Talk to you soon. Love Mum

Hello
Came across your blog accidentally (well, searching for Abduls in Shimoni actually), and after reading a couple of entries realized you must have been on the forest program with my son, Tim Pellissier. He described Abdul's food much as you did, and told us about the fire and making butterfly nets. It was cool reading your blog entries and gave me a bigger picture of what Tim has been doing as well! Good luck to you in your future travels!

food
You must be really enjoying the food, but do they really fry that much? I'll have to look up some of those foods and see if I can make them. In the Okanagan we had sorbettos at the gelateria that sounded much like the juices you are having there. We always tried two or three before choosing which one we liked. I love your blogs. Love, Mum

Are any of these spiders dangerous to people? I'm not sure what would be worse, the spiders the size of your hand or the millipede your friend had crawl across her lap. Both would creep me out completely.
18th July 2010

Sounds like you should've taken your hiking poles with you so you could use them to knock down spider webs before you walk into them! Maybe for your survey leader day you can go count spiders? Hehehe. I'm trying to imagine you with a British accent. I somehow can't manage to do it. Guess I'll have to wait and see (hear?) for myself when I get there! By that point you should be fluent. =D Sounds like you're still having a great time. Yay! Go say hi to a monkey for me!
13th July 2010

Too much fun
Sounds like you are having way too much fun, but also learning a lot along the way. We envy you the experiences you are having and wish we could be there too, even if you aren't exactly wishing that yourself. Do you have to contend with biting bugs at all? We do here and couldn't stay down in Fish Creek Park today because of the swarms of mosquitos. Love from us both, and we are looking forward to your next entry.
2nd July 2010

Sounds like quite the trip to get there! That was good luck running into the other volunteers with GVI at the airport (and thus figuring out that your bags weren't getting checked through). Sounds like it's GVI start-of-semester season in Kenya right now no matter where people are going to be based. I hope a good night's sleep helps with the overwhelmedness (is that a word?) and that the bus ride tomorrow isn't too bad! Say hi to Africa for me! <3
