Yassas! Look! Another blog, and you didn’t have to wait a month this time. You can thank me when I get home; gifts can be forwarded to mi casa. ;-) So…Greece. It’s been excellent. I’m just about as in love with it as I was Italy, but in a different way. They are so completely different. Italy was fast paced, hectic and insane. Its energy was infectious and exhausting and I loved it. Greece is slower paced. There is less urgency and more time for the little things, like a walk through the park at 2 am or a shop owner who comes to know you by name. it still feels like we’re always moving and doing something, but it’s a different kind of activeness, you know? Maybe that makes no sense at all. Oh well. ... read more

Yassas! Hi everybody! I’ve been in Greece for several week now (seriously, where does the time go??) but I’m going to talk about Paris, since I haven’t told you lot about it yet. Oops. So, without further adue, Paris: Friday Kasey and I took a cab to the airport (as she and I were the only two using that airport) at 4 45 am. Yeah you read that right. Her plane left at 7 am. Mine left at 3 30 pm. I seriously sat in a chair for seven hours without moving. 12ish hours, 2 books and one plane ride later I was in Paris! Delphine picked me up from the airport and it was time for the French adventures to begin! After a dinner of quiche, salad, bread, cheese and wine (SO French!) we walked ... read more

Hi. I know, I know. I’m sorry. Finals week killed me. And then I was traveling, and then I was settling into Greece and before I knew it almost a month had gone by. I’ll try to keep the updates a bit more frequent now, yeah? Let’s see, where did we leave off…? Florence I think. Well I was right when I said that next week would be quiet. There was nothing noteworthy (besides a few middle of the night baseball games, but we won’t go there; the wounds have not yet healed) until Friday October 8th. But Friday was epic! We woke up at the crack of dawn and took a train with our insane history prof Jan (pronounces Yan)—who should be illegal at 8 am by the way—to an ancient port city called Ostia ... read more

Hi everybody! Can you believe I’ve been here for 5 weeks already?? I know, it’s crazy. I have no clue where the time went. It’s been quite a ride so far. The wine tasting was super fun! We drove about two hours to a vineyard up near Tuscany and it was absolutely gorgeous! We learned how to harvest the grapes and then spent an hour or two pumping Glee out of my iPod and picking grapes. It was SO much fun! We ate about as many grapes as we picked (so good!) and we had a blast giggling and singing along to the music. After that we learned how they process the grapes to turn them into wine and then we went to a restaurant to taste the different wines made at the vineyard. They were ... read more

Roma, Roma, Roma

I know, I know, I’m such a failure. It’s been ages since I blogged. But, in my defense, I am in Rome. I can’t be spending all my valuable time making you folks jealous. :P Now let’s see. Since Venice (holy cow, was that really 2 weeks ago??) I’ve had quite a few epic adventures. We helped out at a soup kitchen last Monday which was really cool. I’ve always been motivated by the concept of human dignity and the idea that every human being has certain things they deserve/have right to simply because they are human. I spent most of my time Monday in back washing and drying trays and I was struck by the thought that every human being has the right to eat their meal off of a clean tray. I got to ... read more

Falling in love with Venezia! <3

VENEZIA!! Can we all just take a moment to discuss how unbelievably incredible Venice is? Likes seriously. There is nothing like it. It’s just… there really are no proper words. *sigh* I will honeymoon there someday. Preferably with one Joseph Patrick Mauer, but we shall see. :) Eight of us got up and went to the train station at about 8 am Friday morning to get tickets and get on a train. After a rather frustrating and very disorganized stop at the station’s McDonald’s for breakfast we made it on to the train and discovered that first class seating really does look like the Hogwarts Express. We also discovered that it’s always a good decision to be aware that it is, in fact, first class and your tickets are for second class…ha! After a mad dash ... read more

Ciao! I'm having a love affair with this city right now, just so everyone knows. I may never come home. :) We've had a great couple of days, though I'm completely exhausted right now. On Friday we stopped at a little cafe (or as we've learned they are often called, a bar. Bar's as we know them are always called pubs) for breakfast. It was suuuuper good! After that we had a 3 hour lesson in basic Italian to help get us through the weekend. It was really good stuff to learn and seemed easy at the time. I, of course, remember none of it. :) There are definate flash cards in my future. But after that we all took a bus closer to the center of Rome and met one of the profs for a ... read more

First day in Rome!

Greatings from Roma!! I've only been here about a day but I think I'm in love already. :) It's so gorgeous! We got into the airport around 5 30 last night and then took a bus to our hostel with a group of German students who, it turned out, knew every word to Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas. Kinda makes a case for the arts transcending language and culture. The hostel was kind of cute, set up like a camp ground with little cabins for people to stay in. After we settled in we found a cool bar area with hamocks and pillows, a dance floor and a hot tub. I think sipping pina coladas in hamocks may be one of my new favorite things. :) After that we found some delicious pizza--our ... read more
