Sorry to hear you were disappointed ? I read your travel blog on Bucharest and i can can gather you didn't really your enjoy time there so much ,ok it's not as beautiful as neighboring Budapest ,but there are some architectural gems that were spared the wrecking ball of Ceausescu if you go to the old Jewish quarter very close to Piata Unirii and you can find some very old buildings there from the 19th century ,there are many other French influenced buildings that are currently being renovated with EU money like the national library and national bank .I found the village museum to be one of the most interesting outdoor museums i have ever seen ,where there are different styles of houses from all over Romania restored in good condition ,a few days is not a fair chance for Bucharest i hope your next visit will be better .
cheers
Hey Ailie! So you were in my "old country" hey? How was Lithuania? It seems you only have a pictorial blog :-(
Well the ferry translation should read that "vehicle transportation is only from the new ferry terminal " but hey!?
Looking forward to seeing you back in OZ. Keep enjoying!
Vilija xo
finally more stories!!! hooray! Hi Ailie!! i was so facinated by you describing the sedlec ossuary i googled it. oh my gosh. pete really wants to go there too.
and MEANDER WOW!!! i love that bit of trivia.
looking forward to more! i wasn't one of those that pestered you for more posts but i was THINKING it!!!!
PS pete and i inquired about tickets to europe for honeymoon woo! we can only afford london, paris, berlin, copenhagen, with free stopovers in zurich and tokyo. yay!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Karolina and I thought of you today, and wondered what you were doing today and who you celebrated with!
I went to uni and then worked all afternoon/evening, but thought of you every unproductive moment i had!! hehehe
Hope you had lots of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! looking forward to more blogs and postcards, Pete and I got your Germany one yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Consititution Death and taxes some to everyone eventually... except in Vilnius ("everyone has the right to die. It is not obligatory".) Although I'm not sure about the taxes.
PS... I love the constitution... The right of a dog to be a dog, and to love and take care of the cat, and to live by the river, sounds like playschool. Nice of them to give the river rights.
Hiiiii.... Looks like you having an awesome time. Sorry I havent commented in so long. Love looking through your pics and reading your adventures. I love the one with the push pin, too funny. Hope your well and loving your time away. We all miss you. xox
Re: do they have hot running water. Yes, they have very good cold tap beer. And very cheap cold tap beer. And cheap beer in two litre PET bottles.
I wasn't soft! You didn't see the nearly two litres of beer and five vodka shots I'd had before (did I mention Shots come in two sizes? 50 and 100ml?).
Rule one in Eastern Europe: Don't go into Strip Clubs. You will be ripped off (feel like paying 80 Euro a drink?). So yes, it was a Discotheque.
So they have hot running water but... Do they have Cold Tap Beer?
And you are soft for drink water in a night club.
Do they call them nightclubs or is that still the terminology for Strip Clubs. So really you were at a discothèque?
Okay talk to you later.
Ps. So the Column are they marble?
to the traveller from the student on the couch hello!! got another postcard today, woohoo! you probably know this already, but Wikipedia told me: "Slavic name Beligrad (a form of Beograd, literally meaning White City)". 'white city' might explain the westernised macdonaldisation haha
thanks for your tales, keep them coming o traveller
Finally found your address so I can look through all your photos. Beautiful, I am so jealous. I will spend some time going back through them when I have more time any way off to double year 11 now!
I wanna see !!! I was too curious so I googled it, i think i found the bridge "Novi Stari Most" that you refer to - beautiful!!! and wow Ailie everything sounds so exciting even the sunbathing. okay especially the CHOCOALTE!!! hehehe
Wow so lucky It looks like your having so much fun over there. We all miss you of course. I cant wait to hear all the stories youll have to tell. Keep up the blogs so we can keep track of all your adventures. You missed a yummy steak last night, hehe. xox....
finally caught up! Ailie I will be checking daily, impatiently awaiting your stories!!! Meanwhile Pete and I continue work and study. I have exams on 21st, 22nd and 25th June then I'm free, but before then is Pete's birthday on 18th June - on 13th June I'm taking him for an Australian Native Outback Degustation dinner (6 courses) at a Coogee Beach Restaurant. Looking forward to it but that is as exotic as it gets for us!!
Found your flikr photos woohoo! bring em on!
got a mention! I got a mention! even though i only finally got the web address for your blog today! hehe enjoying this far more than the study i'm supposed to be doing.
birds well i see you already know about lincoln parrots oh well.
and HEY! I LIKE BIRDS!! birds =/ boring landscape, they are integrated within the landscape. consider gannets and such diving for fish off the nz coast - pretty awesome.
i bet seeing a flock of thousands of budgerigars would be awesome, and thats birds.
but i guess you agree enough to show your eagle.
Green Parrots Hi miss Ailie! those parrots are Ringnecks (many varieties round the world, this is aussie though!), also known as port lincoln parrots. One day I saw one from the window of an english class at gossie high and was flabbergasted cos they don't come near coastal NSW. My teacher (i forget his name but he was one of the cool ones) thought i was making it up so sent me down to the library to get a bird book, only to prove i was correct!!
Yes, you wish you were here. I am eating Pizza. And salads. And other healthy stuff (honestly!). The hostels usually provide breakfast, including meat, cheese and bread. So they unofficially provide lunch, as well.
Public transport is awesome. Will write about it in my next blog.
Nice photos! Wish we were there. Not at the bar though. You've commented on the scenery but how's the food! How's the public transport? We were glad to hear from you. Have you made any arrangements about your phone?
Wow BTDT You have been busy. I am using Jennifer's laptop- mine is in sickbay. and Jennifer is very impressed by how much you have seen already. No touts, no Romani - I take it back. No wait they've probably all gone to the Balkan states- just kidding!
Range Rover's But Ailie, Land/Range Rovers NEVER break down!! It must have been a part stolen from a Toyota ;)
If you get a chance, you should have a look at www.flickr.com for your photos. We put all ours there www.flickr.com/photos/jmanners and it just works. Uploading, organising, its specifically designed for photos.
