The image of the walled city at sunset struck a chord. Khiva must have been a wealthy city to have been able to maintain such a structure for so long.

Food Whenever I was overseas somewhere, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.. all I ever wanted was some damn apple crisp. It was always the first thing I had when I got home too.

Who are you kidding..... :) They look great from here... where's the "after" picture? Loreen and I are really enjoying your blog and seeing that part of the world through your eye's. If you haven't already, check out an online version of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam while you are in his native land. Wikipedia notes, under the heading of Persian Literature in the West: "As a demonstrative metric, the 1953 edition of The Oxford Book of Quotations, contains no less than 188 excerpts from the Rubaiyat alone, of which 59 are complete quatrains, virtually two thirds of the total work of Omar Khayyám. Not even Shakespeare or the Authorized Version of the Bible are represented by such massive percentages. "

Welcome to our travelblog page. We initally called ourselves "AfricaBound" because we spent a year traveling around Africa from August 2007 to August 2008. At that time, little did we even think that we could go on another extended trip. Somehow through much perseverance and determination we were able to save up for yet another extended trip, this time as sort of a honeymoon. Our current itinerary has us traveling from July 2010 until December 2011 through Central Asia, China, New Zealand, Australia and then back up to SE Asia, Nepal, India and then finally Japan.
