Hi,

I'm a 22 year old girl from Melbourne, Australia. I moved to London in April of 2012 and am on a working holiday Visa. Having already backpacked through South East Asia in 2011 I wanted to see Europe in a different way. So, with very little money and the help of a small group of ever so generous friends I began my journey.

This blog covers not only my stories of London but also about my mini trips that I'm able to take throughout Europe. It was made predominantly for my family, so many of the comments may be directed at them but I hope it is still an enjoyable read for anyone wanting to see what the world is like through the eyes of a young woman travelling on her own.

Hi All, Long time no blog. I have basically been in London since Jan/Feb with only one trip to Stratford-upon-avon so it was nice to finally be able to get away. I've been working 6 days a week for 5 weeks to save up for this trip and I must say it was worth it! For one week I did a Topdeck tour of the Croatian Islands. Topdeck is a company that specialises in tours for 18-30 somethings. I had quite a few friends that had done the same tour and had an amazing time, most of them Aussies and Kiwis so since I would be travelling alone I thought it would be a good idea to jump on one of these trips. The tour is a round trip from Split stopping at a few islands ... read more

It's been a while since my last blog and I'm afraid this one won't be too exciting. I've been taking it easy, haven't done much since January! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break. I spent Easter sunday cooking a roast lunch with Jackie, Aunty Denise and Uncle Leon. It was really lovely to spend the day with some family and see a few who I haven't seen for a while! Recently I went and spent the day in Stratford-upon-Avon, better known as the birthplace of Shakespeare. It is about a 2hour train ride from London so it was quite a long day but well worth it. The weather is starting to warm up so we had a cool day, with a little bit of rain in the late afternoon which I guess wasn't too ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague » Old Town February 13th 2013

Okay so I finished off Part 1 with Jaclyn and I being absolutely exhausted from spending the entire hours between 8am-6pm on foot through the streets of Rome. We crashed and burned in our beds that night and were in no mood to hit the town like I failed attempt the night before (I hadn't mentioned it as there was, well, nothing to mention). The morning of the 29th of January we got up slowly but surely, had our breakfasts of cake and orange juice and made our way to the bus station to catch a bus to the airport for a flight to Vienna, Austria that afternoon. This was the point where we said to ourselves...why did we have to do 6 cities in 10 days? We were sore, tired and I was getting very ... read more

Hi All, So I am sitting here writing this after having come home early from work. It appears I lost my voice on Friday last week and still can't find it (good dad joke, I know). I am fine otherwise so both my doctor and myself are a little bit stumped. It is possible I have contracted a virus after running myself into the ground attempting to cover 6 cities, over 5 countries in just 10 days. Crazy yes but also oh so much fun! It began on the 24th of January when my friend, Jaclyn, from Melbourne arrived in London at 7am. I refused to let her become jetlagged so I forced her to stay awake and stay busy. The next day we were up and ready to tackle the cities, starting with Florence. Our ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome to 2013, I can tell it is going to be one of the most exciting years yet. I have a lot of trips planned, including one coming up in just 5 days time. On Friday I will be off to Florence, Rome, Prague, Vienna and Amsterdam but more about that when I come back. For now, I will tell you all about my Italian christmas in London and my Scottish New Year that would never be allowed to take place back in Australia! I know it is mostly my family who read this as I refused to add them on facebook (forgive me if I don't think you need your mum and nosey Aunties on a social networking site) BUT for those of you who aren't aware of a normal christmas for ... read more

I'm dreaming of a white christmas, just like the ones I've never known. Well apparently it will not be cold enough her in London to snow over christmas day and I should expect my first sight of it over New Years in Edinburgh! I am a little disappointed as it has been very cold over the last week, ranging anywhere from -1ºC to 10ºC but not cold enough for snow. The other day I woke up to a gorgeous layer of frost blanketing everything outside and got very excited. It is all very pretty here in the winter leading up to christmas. The lights on Oxford Street and Regent Street outdo Melbourne cities and the tree in Leceister square trumps any others I have seen (sorry mum, even your bright blue baby!). This year I will ... read more

I can now cross off another 2 things from my to do list whilst in Europe...Oktoberfest and the sights of the Sound of Music in Salzburg! After 6 days of camping, flight troubles and hours worth of airport waiting I am now safe and sound back home but very exhausted. Jackie, my cousin on dad's side, left London at 10am on Friday 21st and didn't arrive in Munich until 8pm that night. Our connecting flight through Milan was delayed for 2.5hrs after they realised there was a problem with the breaks after we'd already boarded! So then we had to swap planes etc. Anyway, we arrived at the camp ground in the wet and rain and pretty much went straight to sleep! Saturday was opening day of oktoberfest and we couldn't get into any of the ... read more

Hello Family :) It has been a while since I have updated this but there hasn't been too much to tell so I thought I'd wait until I had a bit of news. I have finally found my own room! This is the 5th, and hopefully final, place I have been to in the last 4 months. I moved in yesterday to a little room with a double bed, desk, wardrobe and a back door that leads into the garden. Don't worry no one has to walk through my room to get outside, there is another door through the lounge so I have this one all to myself! It would be lovely if we had a warm day but unfortunately I think those are now behind us. We've officially gone into Autumn with less hot days ... read more

It's been a while since the last update but I have been pretty busy. I now have a job, a new place to stay and have taken a small trip to Paris! The job - Yay! I now have a job in Victoria (very close to Buckingham Palace) as a Customer Support Advisor. Basically I answer phones and emails about people having problems with being charged for the "glamour" content they've viewed on the internet. It's Mon-Fri, 9-5:30 and having just finished my first week I am pretty tired but it's not such a bad job. There's always something to do or someone to get angry with you so time goes pretty quickly which is good when you're only working for £8 an hour! The new place - I've just spent my last night sleeping on ... read more

Hi everyone! Seeing as I didn't want you all snooping around on my facebook and there's a very annoying time difference between London and Melbourne that makes Skyping almost impossible I thought I'd create a blog and let you all be updated on how everything is going and what I'm up to here in Londontown. I've just hit 5 weeks here and time has gone incredibly quickly! I'm still staying with the boys I met in Asia and have been spoilt rotten by them. I've only just had to start sleeping on the couch as they've been kind enough to share beds so that I had my own for over a month. They cook me dinner a lot and make me cups of teas. I just have to put up with all the farting! There's also ... read more
