Settling Down Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Hvar
Hey Everyone! I have lots to update you on and i know you all have lots of questions. So here is the latest........(bare with me, this is a Croatian keyboard). I arrived in Dubrovnik, Croatia on August 13th. My friend Flo invited me to stay at her familes's home. We are on the Island of Hvar in a village called Jelsa. Its absolutely amazing here. It reminds me of the Greek Islands and Corsica. It has the feel of Corsica in the way that it is untouched, pure beauty and nature. The people of Croatia have a time schedule similar [View Full Entry]

Daniela and I continued on our camino. We were in pain, once again my feet were swollen four times their natural size. I had bought new hiking boots. Daniela's knee had started bothering her and she now was wearing a brace. You could definitely tell the pilgrims from the tourists. We were all walking slowly and hobbling as the tourists were walking quickly and in groups. It was becoming much more difficult to find beds. Daniela and I embraced our sleeping on the ground expereince with a room full of snoring people. Needless to say we were up at 4am [View Full Entry]

The Path

I had boarded my bus from Santiago to Burgos at 11pm. I arrived and started walking at 6am. I walked 22km. I stayed in a cute village. I was in my element. I love walking the camino, there is a special connection I share with nature. I can't begin to describe my love for the camino in words. Its always a new, different and very special experience. I had decided to walk the last 500km this time because I was having so much fun on the camino, I didn't want it to end. I met several people along my journey. [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Santiago. I immediately went to find a hotel. I was then off to the Pilgrim office. I saw a few Pilgrims I recognised while I was in line for my compestella. We were all sad. Our Camino had ended. The Santiago cathedral is an awesome sight. As the saying goes...its not the destination but the journey. I ran into Jeff and he asked my plans. I was to meet a friend in Italy. I just wasn't feeling it. I wanted to continue my camino. He suggested I bail on my plans to Italy and take a bus [View Full Entry]

I left Sarria with only 100 km to go. This is where the Camino gets extremely busy. Most trekking tour groups start at the last 100 km. It is extremely hard to find a bed during the summer while walking the last 100. You find yourself leaving earlier and earlier everyday. You feel as though you have to rush to get to your destination. It takes the fun out of it and is very frustrating. I met Annabelle who was from Santiago. She and I shared a hotel room a couple of nights. Since she spoke Spanish, she was able [View Full Entry]

I had inteneded to walk to O'Ceibriero roughly 28 km from Villa Fanco Briezo. While climbing O'Ceibreiro I was told by another guide of a large group of teenagers there would be no beds available so I stopped in Faba. I styed at a private albergue ran by two German nuns. I met Danielle and Sylvia from Germany. I also met Otto and his wife Connie also from Germany. I met Mariella from Seville, Spain and her eleven yearold son Pablo. They were so nice. I loved their story of mother-son bonding time. Mariella's English was limited as was my [View Full Entry]

I was so excited to start my Camino de Santiago. I arrived early to the Barcelona Airport. I had already planned my day to a tee! I needed to check into my hotel, purchase a bus ticket for the next day to Ponferrada, and sort through my backpack to only pack the necessities. I then needed to go to the Pilgrim office to store my bigger pack and aquire my Pilgrim credential. Within four hours of arriving to Santiago I had accomplished all my goals for the day. I was so excited and determined to make this Camino the experience [View Full Entry]

I met Adva in my hostel. She and I instantly became friends. Adva is from Israel. She had been traveling around Europe alone for the last 5 months. We had decided to hop a train and spend a day exploring Girona. She and her family had visited there when she was young and her mother had suggested she go back. We had a great day. We relied on the locals to help us find our way into town. They laughed and smiled at us as they tried there best to communincate with the very little- Spanish speaking travelers. It always amazes [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Barcelona on June 23rd. I was told the best way to see the city was to hop the on hop on -hop off tourist bus. I don't usually like to be a tourist but I knew I was leaving for Santiago in a week and wanted to make sure I didn't miss a thing. I had a great time! There is so much to see and do in Barcelona. This city is vibrant and never sleeps except Sunday. => I spent a day going to the Gaudi Houses and the Cathedral. I spent many days lying and [View Full Entry]
