I had one day to explore Lisbon, so I bought a ticket for the day tour of the city. I recommend this tour, especially if you are short on time. It was very informative and you could hop on and off at anytime. I then wandered up to the castle on my own. It wasn't far from my hostel. The views were amazing! Lisbon is a beautiful city. It comes alive at night. There are musicians, artists, chestnut vendors, and many other performers in the corridors. The cafes and pastrie shops are buzzing with people. The pasteries are not to [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Lagos in the afternoon and was unable to find a taxi anywhere. A local saw me and walked me to the door of my hostel. she was so kind. I spent a week in Lagos. I absolutely loved it. It is amazingly beautiful and so peaceful here. I came perfect time of year. During the summer Lagos is crazy with tourists. In October it was filled with locals and festivals. I went the culture fest and watched dancers from Africa, Brazil, Portugal, and other countries. It was great! I especially liked the Olive Tree Band. The get [View Full Entry]

I love Porto! As you can see its absolutely beautiful. I took a two- day tour bus of the city. I wandered around the seaside. There are amazing views from all over the city. I also went to a wine tatsing at the Calmel Winery. The oldest winery in existence in Porto. Porto is a very quaint town as you can see. [View Full Entry]

I took a bus from Mostar to Dubrovnik, Croatia. I flew from Dubrovnik to Barcelona, and from Barcelona to Lisbon. It was a very long day. Once I was in Lisbon, I wandered aimlessly around the city. I had bought a bus ticket to Porto for the following day. I had planned on going to Porto, Lagos, and spending a couple days in Lisbon before I headed off to Morocco. Here are some random photos of my day in Lisbon. I found Portugal to be the least expensive country in Western Europe. => [View Full Entry]

I took a bus from Sarajevo to Mostar. The bus kept stalling as we were going up hill, it was pretty disturbing. Finally, after enduring this for 4 hours, another bus came and took us the last 20 minutes to town. It was pretty funny. I had booked a room at Nina's Guesthouse and was so happy. It was close to the old town and super cute. Nina and her Mom were so kind. I had booked a private room for three nights and decided to change to dorm rooms for the remainder of my stay. Nina's mom came to [View Full Entry]

I've spent the last 3 days in Serbia fighting the cold, rain, and gloom. I've decided I need a warm break, full of sea breezes and sunshine. Yep, I'm coming home for the holidays. I'll be home for Thanksgiving and staying through the New Year. Then, I'm off again to South America, Central America, and where ever else my heart takes me. I'm looking forward to walks on the beach, a day of pampering at Glen Ivy, baking Christmas cookies, decorating Christmas trees, salsa dancing, good Mexican food, and all the festivities that take place during Christmas. Most importantly, I'm [View Full Entry]

I spent the wandering through the city. I visited the war museum, and walked the perimeter of the fortress. I went back to my hostel to cook dinner and met Carrie. She was working at the hostel. She and I had some great conversations. She started to tell me about her life during the war. She told me she used to cry everyday, when her father would leave for work. she was afraid he would not return home. She encouraged me to visit the buildings that still showed the damge from the bombings. She had told me how her favorite [View Full Entry]

Kortor is a beautiful little seaside town. I spent most of the day climbing the steep and narrow steps of the village within the fortress. There were some amazing views. You find such simplicity in their lifestyle. Its so nice not to hear cars, or walk around hordes of people. Its so peaceful. [View Full Entry]

Rachel ( my friend from Seattle) had suggested I go to Montenegro. I was so glad I did. As you can see its amazing. I stayed at Sammy's Guesthouse. Sammy and his family are amazing. They will cook special meals for you, take you on tours around the island by boat, and offer you unlimited glasses of their homemade grappa. Beware its strong. Sammy had lived in Germany and opted for a more simpler life. He had numerous stories about how escaped the rat race. He was inspirational. He was originally from Yugoslavia and had fled to Germany during the [View Full Entry]
