Let me kick off by saying Tokyo is a bloody fantastic place... Seriously it is that good. It isn't the neon lights or the crazy crowds it is the smells and odours that set this place out from everywhere else... this sounds wrong. Let me start again or at least put it into some context for you. Cities such as for example Manchester or London smell like some bodily fluid or other, Manchester is a sort of bile infused vomit (there's a recipe for Heston bloody Bloomenthal there i'm sure) and as for London I put that as sort of a "Morning after a Vindaloo" style pong. Not here though, aside from being exceptionally clean (hardly any rubbish - even the business types litter pick round their respective skyscrapers come 4pm) and tidy the first real ... read more

Off we pop..... Flights are like Christmas... the build up is magic and then once the excitement of unwrapping (take off) is over then it becomes well a bit of a chore. In fact the trip we decided on the wonder of Xmas comes twice with a trip to your least favourite uncle chucked in for good measure. Terminal 5... the pinnacle of our aviation waiting rooms can be described as a next generation (popular phrase these days) greenhouse with terrible coffee stalls, more Harrods than Princess Diana's inquest (3 I think we counted) and lo and behold a Gordon 'F**king' Ramsey restaurant. It kind of left me wondering is there nothing that the UK's favourite Jock won't pimp himself out for?? The name of this 'Venture' is Plane Food (that's a play on words geddit?!?!) ... read more

Well what can I say, for all my intent i've been a bit rubbish at updating this so far. But here goes Wally watchers!!! New observations from the last few weeks include the following..... X43 Service from Burnley while being handy should actually come with a Wallet Health Warning. The bus should come with an effing black Zorro style headband or at least some lubrication while you get violated. Ahem anyway at least I managed to refrain from falling asleep on it which was my usual trick at 7am. Rusholme while on a map is close to Manchester City Centre really isnt. I have a theory that Princess and Upper Brook Street leading out the town centre is actually a Concertina in space and time. Either that or buggering about buying Croissants and Water from a ... read more

Well after this mornings doldrums I have found a decent pair o' shorts from Extreme Pie. This has lifted the mood somewhat and now feeling better about everything. Apart from the gurgling in me guts from last nights chili, that feeling might last the rest of the day. Capiscin overload is not attractive but does have some interesting colours......... read more

Well with three weeks to go I can honestly say I'm currently completely underwhelmed. Think I've got everything I need apart from a decent pair of boardies but I currently can't get excited. Do you think you can over excite yourself and need an excitement recharge like a badly crafted electric car? Anyway 3 days of work left this week and then a week off to get everything ready i.e. visa for China might be useful and aforementioned boardies however with it being about 6 degrees in Japan and its pissing it down might be a while before they get used :) Anyway enough rambling, this Citrix stuff won't configure itself. Well well well about time I got this bad boy started hadn't I. So much has happened since we decided we were going to leave the "Wonderful" UK shores and so much happened before we decided too. Number 10 was sold in the summer (that was fun) and we finally completed the week before Xmas which meant I was moving back into the 'rents place for cheap lodgings and then everything was confirmed, notices handed in, flights finalised/booked, ferry's booked and rail passes gotten. We are so thankful that the "Internet" (beautiful British Invention) has made sorting this out so much more painless than I reckon it could have been even if it was a bit more expensive but I figure its money well spent for making our first big trip as easy as possible. However ... read more
