Hello Just a very quick blog around a weekend we had in Marseille. First thing is don't go in February its blooming freezing!! Anyway Marseille is a very mixed city, the old town around the Vieux Port (old port) is very picturesque and lovely to stroll around and watch the fishing boats coming in and sell their catch on the harbour side. The port is dominated by the basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde. A beautiful Neo-Byzantine church is situated at the highest natural point in Marseille that looks down on the city. It reminds me slightly of Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio. Just next to the port is the Quartier Du Panier One of the city's oldest districts (and France’s), the Panier is where the ancient Ph... read more

Sadly this is our last Blog for Japan as after Osaka and Nara we headed up to Happo One for a few days of ski-ing, which was amazing fun but not really worth blogging about. We had an evening in Osaka which is famous for its food and is said to be the food capital of Japan. Its two most famous dishes are blowfish (and you can see live blowfish swimming in the tanks outside most of the restaurants) and octopus ball dumplings called Takoyaki which are sold everywhere and are delicious. Osaka is often called the working heart of Japan is a modern urban city that lacks the sights of Tokyo but well worth a couple of nights, as like most Japanese cities it seems to come alive in the evening. After Osaka we took ... read more

5 Days in Kyoto Kyoto was the next stop on our Japanese adventure, but first we had to get there and that meant a ride on the world famous bullet train! There are a few epic rides in the world you can take, if you were to compile a list of the top 10 the Bullet train would have to be on it! We waited eagerly in our little bay in Tokyo central station for the bullet train to arrive glancing up at the clock counting down the minutes. Exactly a minute before it was supposed to arrive I see a white mirage in the distance streaking towards us and thirty seconds later exactly on time it glides silent past me. First impression are it massive, in terms of length it’s a good 15-20 large cars ... read more

Tokyo Baby, what a city!!! After this trip, Tokyo could well be my new favourite city. We flew in from Beijing and Landed at Tokyo Haneda airport who’s runway stretched into Tokyo bay so you get a great view of the city as you land. We practically ran off the plane in our haste to start exploring the city. We grabbed our incredibly heavy backpacks which slowed us down a little and headed to the monorail and the ride into central Tokyo and our Hostel. First impression of Tokyo were how clean it was, and how high-tech everything is, it’s a bit like a city from the future, like an episode of tomorrows world. As we sped into the city on the monorail you notice how quiet everyone is. There are no mobiles ringing or music ... read more

Hello Travel lovers This edition of our travel blog takes us to the Far East on our first visit to China We only had a few days in China as we were on our way to Japan but we couldn’t land in Beijing and past up the opportunity to explore the city! We landed at Beijing’s new airport at mid-day and the first thing you notice is the size of the place, its massive! Its so big that when you land you have to take an internal train to the baggage area to collect your bags. The cavernous indoor hall must be the largest structure I have ever been in, and because it was built for the Olympics its all brand new. Because we only had a couple of days to fit in as much as ... read more

Greetings blog fans, its been a while Anyway this is a quick blog for our recent visit to the Andalusia region of southern Spain. It was a bit of a whirlwind tour of 4 nights using our own unique brand of turbo tourism with the emphasis on good food and wine and seeing the sights. We flew into Malaga Airport and landed at 9:30pm and eagerly set out to look for our hire car company. Like typical Brits abroad the first thing that hit us was the heat, even at that time of night is was still very hot and humid. We got our hire car with the minimum of fuss and plonked the sat nav on the dashboard and headed out into the night, destination Malaga old town and our lodgings for the evening. We ... read more

Rio De Janeiro Sorry Blog fans this is the last one! So we finally made it to Rio our last stop, and it didn´t disappoint. Rio has a spectacular setting ringed by gorgeous mountains white sandy beaches and tropical rain forest. It also has a beautiful salt water lagoon in the middle of the city that has a great walking track, it is a nice 8km stroll around it. From the lagoon you look up to the Corcovado which is a sheer 710 m granite peak with the Christ the Redeemer statue sat on top. You also have a great view of Sugar Loaf Mountain which is down at the end of the beaches. Rio also has great night life with the bohemian neighborhoods of Santa Teresa and Lapa being where the hub of the samba ... read more

After Iguazu falls we took a flight up to Salvador in the north east of Brazil, in the Bahia region which is famous for its beaches and also Salvador the party capital of Brazil. Salvador has a weekly street party and also the countries best carnival, the tourists go to Rio the locals party in Salvador. Salvador sits on a V shaped peninsular in a warm tropical climate, this is evident in the coast line it was more tropical than anywhere we have seen in South America. The guide book describes Salvador as the jewel in Brazils Afro-Brazilian crown and was the capital of the Portuguese new world colonies. Because over 3 million slaves were transported from Africa to Salvador it has a distinctive African culture to it which palpable just taking a walk down the ... read more

Wow, what a place! Iguazu Falls, although they should be called rainbow falls as everywhere you look there are rainbows!! The falls can be reached from the two main towns on either side of the falls: Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil or Puerto Iguazú in Argentina. Both sides have huge national parks attached to them which have virgin rain forests and a whole host of animals and birds including Jaguar and Puma (although you never see them). There are plenty of birds in the park including the fabulous Toucan (think Guiness adverts) which have to have the most amazing bill of any bird. There are also plenty of Parrots and other birds as well. We visited both sides of the falls to appreciate it as they are both very different. Most of the falls are on ... read more

Hello people, Just a quick blog for Northern Argentina. After the incredible Bolivia tour (see previous blog) we had a nightmare 2 day trip on trains, foot and buses across the border to the city of Salta. Salta is a really beautiful city and it was nice to be back in Argentina which really has a feeling of continental Europe about it. We celebrated being back in civilisation again by heading out to one of Saltas famous parilla (meat restaurant) and gorged ourselves on amazing food before sampling Saltas pretty decent bars and night life. Salta like all South American cities is built around an amazing square which is perfect for people watching with a cold beer. The region around Salta is famous for two things, one is oranges which grow everywhere the square is lined ... read more
