The internet has been absolutely shocking since Malawi....if it's available it is so slow it takes literally an hour to send one email. After leaving Kande beach in Malawi we made our way to Zambia and to South Luangua National Park on the most hideous roads I have ever been on....dusty, bumpy and never ending. It took us 7 hours to drive about 60 miles. It was very worth it though because we spent a night in the national park going on an evening and morning game drive where we saw lions eating a buffalo they had killed the night before which smelt so bad we were all gagging. Some of the group saw a leopard but my group wasn't so lucky. Maybe another time. The park was gorgeous and we watched the sunset which was ... read more

At the moment I am by Lake Malawi (Kande Beach) after some hefty days of travelling. Lots has happened since my last blog and seeing as I didn't write much then I have a lot to tell you! We arrived on Zanzibar on the 8th August after spending one night by the beach in Dar es Salaam. It was a beautiful white sand beach with a cool campsite with hot showers - something of a luxury here. The ferry across to Zanzibar takes about 2 hours, during which about half the passengers become very sea sick and wonder why on earth they are putting themselves through this. It was very hot on the ferry and even though I dont get sea sick usually I felt terrible and spent most of the journey on the top deck ... read more

Went swimming with dolphins yesterday which was amazing....probably about 20 of them swimming beneath us. Tomorrow just chilling out and tghen going snorkelling on another island. Very little time again (African internet is quite shocking) so ill have to leave it there!xxxxxx... read more

August 2nd 2006

Hey! So much has happened since my last blog I don't really know where to start! From Nakuru we visited the Masai Mara National Park where we saw a wild cheetah, lions and loads of other animals. We also visited a Maasai village which was amazing.....the people live in little mud huts and wear bright red shawls and carry spears. It sounds crazy but they were really nice and made us feel welcome. They even spoke pretty good english which was really helpful when we were trying to understand their traditions. For example, for a boy to become a man he has to kill a lion and survive for a couple of months on his own. Due to National Parks the lion killing part has been restricted but they still have to go and live alone ... read more

July 28th 2006

Yesterday was an excellent day. We had a full days game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park and saw so many animals...giraffes, rhinos, flamingos, wildebeast, buffalo, impalas, zebras, baboons and many many more. Wr stopped for lunch next to a group of baboons who were very mischievous....they distracted us with a few playful ones whilst another larger one snuck round the back and stole a bag of rolls and caused chaos for a while until we all realised what had happened and had a good laugh about it. The variety of animals in the national park is just staggering and you can get right up close to them. In the evening it got a bit rainy and because we were camping it meant an early night. Sorry for such a short entry but I have very ... read more

We started off on Monday morning and headed to Lake Naivasha, west of Nairobi and got to know all of the group. They are all really lovely and we just started to get to know each other. We visited a giraffe and elephant sanctury where we could get right up close to the animals as I am sure you will see from my pictures. In the evening our cook whos name is Good Luck (don't ask) cooked us a lovely meal and Kim, our tour leader who is excellent, gave us a run down of what was to come. The next day we went on a walking safari in the Kenyan savannah and got so close to all the wild animals it was amazing. Giraffes, zebras, impala, gazelles, warthogs (lol!) and so many more. We walked ... read more

July 22nd 2006

Hi everyone! I arrived in Nairobi on Saturday morning and everything was all going very well....got my money changed, got a visa, got through customs etc and then went down to the baggage reclaim to get my bag. Unfortunately, because my flight in London had been delayed for a while and I had only had about 20 minutes to catch my next plane in Addis Ababa they had not had time to transfer my luggage. There were a few other people in my situation and understandaly we were all pretty annoyed! I talked to a man from Ethiopian Airlines and he took all of our details and said that it should come over on a flight tomorrow. I met my taxi driver and we drove down into Nairobi and to my hotel. I got a bit ... read more
