Any idea when you plan to hit Cuba so I can start looking for a winter holiday? Looking forward to seeing at Christmas. Will you two be here from Jeff & Susan's wedding and Donna & my 50th celebration? Love, Denise |
| 24th November 2009 barb unich | - From: Back on the Boat..... Year 3 Begins Glad to see the blogs again! Was wondering what you were up to and when you would set sail again!! I will be in Cuba in February with Lise (Bruce is staying behind to work - Loser!) Maybe we can meet up and have a drink. I'll watch for your progress. Enjoy! |
| 23rd November 2009 Mike Bondy | Roughing it I see now guys. - From: Back on the Boat..... Year 3 Begins Wow that is a pretty nice place that you are staying. The view is spectacular right from your boat. Now that's cruising. Have fun while we toil and work back here. The weather has held up though so far in Canada go figure compared to last year. |
| 23rd November 2009 Roger & Sandy | Australia - From: Back on the Boat..... Year 3 Begins Hi Guys good interesting post. Glad u discovered rudder early.Sounds like Bahamas is going to spoil u at the dock!! We are finishing week 3 in Australia, great trip and weather. Have done a ton of things, flew into Sydney spent 3 days there.Flew north to Cairns and Port Douglas for 4 days and went further N to Cape Tribulation to see where Capt James Cook had run aground on the Great Barrier Reef and holed Endeavour. Dove on the "Reef" 4 times in total-awesome. We did an all day sail on a "Maxi" 80' overall called Ragamuffin, great day-big bateaux. Drove south for a few days before deciding that the poor Australian roads might kill us we hopped a flight to Brisbane.Great city very hot 35+ but bearable. We then flew south to Melbourne as per the plan for 3 days which we loved except the flies-what a pain in the ass. Left M for the Great Ocean Road bordering the Southern Ocean which is impressive will show u some great shots when u return. Today Nov 23 is our turnaround day from Halls Gap in the Grampians for a week long return to Sydney and our 14,500 km trip home, mind you its in a B-777 not a bateaux. Glad to hear things are well hope to see u over Christmas All the best and safe passages Rog & Sandy |
| 23rd November 2009 Peter & Sandi | Hello - From: Back on the Boat..... Year 3 Begins Sorry we missed seeing you on your trip through Florida. Let us know when you will be back stateside. How time flies when you are living right!!!! |
| 23rd November 2009 Garry and Yola Grant | Can't wait - From: Back on the Boat..... Year 3 Begins Hi Doug and Sharon Glad to hear that you are back on the boat and looks as if you have had a terrific start to the season. The marina that you are spending the next two months in looks great. If we are able to get our boat down there next winter, this is the sort of arrangement that would possibly appeal to us. Will have to debrief you both in the spring. Have a great Christmas and we look forward to your blogs. |
| 23rd November 2009 Velda House | Sounds like a great Winter Holiday - From: Back on the Boat..... Year 3 Begins Your Dad and I spend a few days on Jekyl Island the first time we came down in 1993. He would really be impressed with your agenda. Of course he would say, "Sharon is the best thing that ever happened to Doug"! You certainly work well as a team. Best wishes for Christmas with your family and a great Winter. Velda (Florida) |
| 22nd November 2009 About Time | Hope to get there this year - From: About Time Visits the Jumentos Cays This year we hope to make it to Duncantown and then drop over to Cuba. We will keep a look out for your place at Ben Cay and tell other cruisers about your place and someone's abuse of your stuff. That is unfortunate as we believe most cruisers are not that way. Doug and Sharon SV About Time |
| 26th October 2009 ELENA | I LOVED YOUR ARTICLE - From: About Time in the Bahamas I REALLY ENJOYED READING YOUR TRIP LOG. HOPE ONE DAY WHEN I RETIRE HUSBAND AND I CAN DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN OUR BOAT. |
| 24th October 2009 Melissa | Ragged Island Area - From: About Time Visits the Jumentos Cays Hi - happened upon your travel log today, and it made me homesick...sounds like ya'll didn't make it quite as far south as my place - Ben Cay - just south of Racoon Cay - maybe 9 miles north of Ragged Island. My husband died 12 years ago - just 2 weeks after we closed the sale on the 12 acre cay - he was merchant marines and we had moved from the Alabama Coast to Lauderdale w/3 children and intentions of building a life in the Bahamas, after many trips there (land and sea) . Well, I didn't move there, but I've gone at least once a year...sometimes with children, or friends, or alone. I've errected several small structures --I am qualified to call myself a 'bush carpenter' -- but would never have built a thing without lots of help from my friends in Duncan Town. Last year I was robbed by foreigners passing through...tools, kitchen, generators, solar panels, VHF...the works...but I'm not quitting. My youngest graduates this May (2010), and who knows, maybe I'll be there, finally, for a while, sometimes. Anyway....thought ya'll might have contacts of folks passing thataway, and I like to tell sailors about the landmark ( no beach, 8' water all the wayaround the cay and 3 tin roofs - one visible from pretty much any direction)there are some goats multiplying...and a cat who is a great hunter, but always looking for a handout! |

Hope you still make it out to your goal of Cuba but there is always next year. | 3rd January 2009 Bondy Family | Looks like you had a great Christmas. - From: A New Years Greeting From About Time Its so nice to have the whole family down there and Ella looks like she enjoys it and the special attention from grandma and grandpa. Stephen is quite the photo bug too which is great to take the pressure off of Sharon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Bondy's. Ben and Heather are down with us, Jake and Jess unfortunately could not make it due to work committments. Mexico has had good weather but certainly chilly at night, with even some rain. We have done lots of neat stuff too, yesterday Ben and I went fishing and saw a humpback whale up nice and close, tons of pods of dolphins and caught a good number of fish. Having a good time too. Cheers. |

| 23rd November 2008 Jane Bondy | Great to get your Blog! - From: ABOUT TIME YEAR 2 Hi Doug and Sharon.....Everyone is envious of you....and how exciting to be heading back to the Bahamas. Saw that you visited Ron and Jenny....very cool that you could do that. We have been busy here...Mike working as usual, Ben is doing well in school in Toronto. Jake has more equipment to install and monitor (thanks Lee) and Jess maintained her job with Air Canada, even though there have been big cutbacks. School has been keeping me very busy, but are you surprised???I am at the top of the class. Old people are such keeners...and I think rather annoying. Hope you get to wear shorts soon. We are busy digging out of snow and having snow storms to deal with. Pretty, but we prefer the white stuff to be sand. Enjoy Christmas with your family! Mike Ben Heather and I will be in Mexico. We hope Jake and Jess will join us for a week in January. We are going for almost a month. Lordy, Mike is happy! Talk soon, take care, and safe voyage. Jane |

| 21st November 2008 Dave | Optical Snooze - From: ABOUT TIME YEAR 2 Hi Doug & Sharon: So far so good! Your picture taking seems to be getting even better. But where is the Shuttle launch? Your timing couldn't have been better!! We have had nothing but cold and snow this week. Sooo, the gardeners came on Tuesday and looked around and then disappeared for the week. You've got gremlins, and I have a porch erchin. Thought you would like to know that the HDV you arranged to order from Dillon direct, came in on Tuesday! I think it took about 5 weeks. First, they wrecked it in coating, then they shipped it out to Cascade who sat on it for two weeks, until we asked for a search. I owe Budda! But the good news is we currently have 18 HDV's in process and it is now outselling all of the others put together. And I just pumped it up in my newsletter this week. If this keeps up I may have to buy a little sloop of say, 50 or 60 feet and maybe take the winter off! Hope that you have a safe crossing. Kind regards Dave |
