So, after 134 days, 14 countries, 3 continents and the most amazing experiences of our lives, we are now flying home to London!! It feels very surreal somehow, not only to be flying home, but also to think back to what we have seen, done, eaten, smelt, experienced over the last 4 1/2 months. With not one argument or cross word, our adventure has brought us closer together as a couple and the experiences we have shared, we will carry with us forever - (and probably bore the people around us forever with our stories!) We will have photos, videos, souvenirs and most importantly our memories to keep our adventure alive. We really couldn't think of a more exciting, rewarding, and wonderful way to spend the months before our wedding. Even though we will soon dive ... read more
Greetings from good old London!!! I cannot believe we are finally home!!! We landed this morning after a final 24 hour travel day and thought we'd better publish our blog from our last couple of countries before the mince pies and Christmas presents take over our thoughts! We completed our whistle-stop and incredible tour of South Esat Asia with Vietnam and Cambodia. Vietnam was definitely a country of contrasts... We adored Hoi An and our boat trips on the Mekong Delta and in Halong Bay were very special, but Hanoi was one of our least favourite places, and gave us a serious dose of home-sickness! After crazy, dirty and scam-filled Hanoi, we took our beautiful boat trip in Halong Bay - we visited huge caves and a gorgeous beach area with hundreds of stairs up to ... read more
Hello again everyone, Our spontaneous detour to Laos was quite possibly the best decision we could have ever made, as the country is beautfiul and quiet, yet rich with stunning landscapes and experiential opportunities centred around the Mekong Delta running through the middle of it. Our adventure started after hearing the Bangkok airport news and we quickly caught an overnight train to the Laos border. The train would have been a wonderful experience, if it wasn't for the man sleeping in the bunk underneath me (who wasn't Albert!) who generated such noises (you couldn't even call it snoring) that on frequent occasions throughout the night, we though he may have choked/had a heart attack/pegged it...After a tuk-tuk minivan ride to the capital Vientiane, we experienced our first slice of Laotian calm, as even the capital city ... read more
Hi Guys - We're fine, Just to update those of you who watch the news. Bangkok airport has shut down due to protesters. We were supposed to fly out this afternoon to Hanoi, Vietnam, but we realized that won't happen. Since learning that this closure could continue for another couple of days, Amy and I studdied a map of South East asia, closed our eyes, and placed our index finger on a spot on the map. Vietiane, Laos is our new, next destination! We have opted for an air conditioned overnight train tonight. This spontaneous change of itinerary actually works out better since we now have the opportunity to visit another South East Asian country that we originally wanted to visit. I guess some things happen for a reason! Will still visit Vietnam and Cambodia - ... read more
Hellooooooooo again everyone, Well, to be honest, Thailand has felt like a break from travelling really as we have done very little in the way of cultural activities and true sightseeing as we have mainly been touring Phuket and Koh Phi Phi - Thailand's biggest Western Islands. We have managed to get some gorgeous pictures, but dont feel too jealous, as in our 9 days on the Thai islands, the sun only came out twice....!! It definitely did not dent our enjoyment though, as there was plenty to occupy us with 5 star hotel rooms for less than 20 pounds, elephants, boat trips and Thai massages.... To start with, we thought we would hate Bangkok. We had heard so many negative stories from other travellers about the city, that we were sure it would remind us ... read more
Hello all, Apologies for our delay in getting our next entry out - a mixture of being very busy/lazy in Australia and then arriving in the craziness of Bangkok with very slow internet connections!! Now in Phuket having the time of our lives. But will save that for the next entry.... We last left off at the end of New Zealand where we bid a sad farewell to our campervan and honestly thought nowhere else could beat our NZ experience... However, we were wrong as Australia brought even more fun and happy times in the form of Melbourne and Sydney. Melbourne was just beautiful - a very easy and managable city to get around and explore. We stayed with my (Amy's) friends from university, and it was so great and slightly strange to see people we ... read more
Hello all, We have come to the end of our Kiwi adventure and are jetting off to pastures new tomorrow - Australia!! But what an amazing time we have had in New Zealand. We had felt a little disappointed not to have had a little more time on the North Island, but the South Island has been as amazing as everyone had told us it would be, and it was great to have two weeks to truly explore every inch of it! We were at the Foz glacier when we last left off, and from there we took the most incredible scenic route through the Haast Pass towards Wanaka and Queenstown. Wanaka was a gorgeous little town on the shores of the lake - (apologies for having no photos of the town, I left the digital ... read more
Hello everyone! A week has passed again and we have covered so much ground. We are now half way around New Zealand's South Island, at Fox Glacier. We have been through rain, sun, wind, and I think some sleet today...The weather here is crazy... Still having an incredible time though, and the scenery here is unbelievably impressive. I hope you're not all getting bored with more 'scenery shots' but we cannot stop taking pictures of this beautiful country, as every turn we take on the road takes us to a new breathtaking viewpoint. Since we last updated, we visited Malborough and tasted yet more New Zealand wine!! Cloudy Bay (NZ most well-known winery) was definitely a highlight. After three separate vineyard towns, we were ready to move on and headed to Kaikoura. We had high hopes ... read more
Hi everyone!! We're updating again as our last blog was purely sky-diving, and although that was incredible fun there was far more to tell you about the North Island!! We began in Aukland but really only spent one night there getting over jet-lag and didn't even get a chance to venture into the town! We picked up our van and headed to the glow-worm filled caves of Waitomo for our black water rafting trip! We slipped into our wetsuits and walked down towards the caves. The water was absolutely freezing and we spent 3 hours in the caves floating along on massive rubber rings with only our headlamps (and the light of the glow-worms) to guide us! At some points we were told to shut off our lights and we were in the pitch back, and ... read more
Hi everyone, This is a mini-update for you as we only had enough time to upload a few pictures...However, we thought you might like to see them!!! Yes, we quickly got into crazy Kiwi mode and went skydiving.... over Lake Taupo.... It was the most insane, exhilerating, petrifying and incredible experience of our lives and we cannot even begin to explain the feeling you get from falling through the air, after dropping from a plane from 12,000ft.... We will update you on the rest of our activities in New Zealand's North Island when we get to a better internet cafe, however.... What made the skydiving all the more surreal was the way it came about. We had travelled in our trusty campervan from Rotorua on Sunday and arrived at a beautiful camp-site and hot springs park, ... read more
