So left Sarasota yesterday and my plan was to make it to Birmingham. Drove through FL, GA, and finally to Alabama where I cooped up in a holiday inn express in Jasper,AL. Had to stop for 2 hours to eat lunch and wait for my phone interview, which went very well. Was told I am in the top 8 and he had to make a couple of other interviews but that he would get back to me so thats where I am at at this point. Today drove through the rest of Alabama, and Mississipp to get to Memphis so I could meet my old roomate from freshman year Katrina for lunch. We ate at the commissary this awesome bbq place where I got sweet potato fries and onion rings as well. Yummy. It was great catching ... read more
Happy Easter! Mine was spent at Mote for most of the day. Met up with Shelby and got to help prepare the food for the turtles, and then got to feed them all, and Danielle showed up to help also. Put in the eed's(toys) for the turtles and then did some scrubbing. Went and saw John one last time, returned his book just in time as he was getting ready to head out so chatted a little and when I came back I got to feed Hugh and Buffet, the resident manatees!!!! Their mouths were so fun to touch and I got to feed them monkey biscuits and lettuce, as well as help scrub algae off their tank and feed harriet the turtle that hangs out in their tank too! Then went out to lunch with ... read more
Resisted the soda today and got a gatorade instead. We didn't end up going out in the field so did some miscellaneous tasks in the office, copy'd a paper for john, backed up Imatch data, then spent most of the day in IMATCH. Tomorrow we are going out so that should be fun, less windy tomorrow i guess. After work ran the ringling bridge and around the marina and then back over the bridge. http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/fl/sarasota/745126869556280665 Hopefully we get back early enough so it will be light out and I can get a quick run in, now that daylight savings time has picked up it is too dark to safely run through the neighborhood, plus my body likes to sleep. ta ta... read more
So I will be running the Mote 24th Annual Run for the turtles on APril 3 out at Siesta. For my purposes this is just going to be a training blog so don't feel obligated to read it.I will include some of my runs and training stuff I will be doing to prepare. today's run(and one i do frequently is below if you're interested) http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/fl/sarasota/418126849375636249 the plan is to run almost everyday til the race and formulate better eating habits and see what sort of results occur. I figure if I'm writing this down I can be more accountable and it will be interesting to see the changes over time. I have ~22 days til the big one so wish me luck! Also if you're in the area feel free to come out and watch, always nice ... read more
So day 2 of training included another 3 mile run and some abs. Lots of water drinking today to stay hydrated and had a salad for dinner and quesadilla for lunch. Tomorrow begins the tough part of weekday workouts, need to figure out if morning before work runs will be more succesful or if afternoon post work ones or a mix of the two. Afternoon ones would be nice because depending on when I get done I could theoretically go run ringling bridge. Maybe on days when not in field. TBC.... read more
Got back late from the field today so just ran a quick out and back of the ringling bridge. Felt really good running it though so was pretty pumped after. The only problem now is I am constantly hungry.Welcome back metabolism from my younger years. http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/fl/sarasota/456126878825511899 On a side note , today when were at Matlacha Isles Site 1, there was an ALLIGATOR! swimming in the water with the manatees. SO COOL! Someone took a pic so once that is available I'll snag it and put it up here. Anyways lots to do tonight, make lunch for tmw, shower, finish reading some stuff, look for jobs or at job sites, sleep, maybe clean, and its already 9:17pm, crap. Tomorrow is st Patty's day, unfortunately my awesome st patty's shirt is at home(leprachaun chase t shirt from ... read more
Ran on lido beach yesterday, unfortunately no idea how far since it is hard to tell the distance, but it was definitely for 20+ minutes so hopefully a fair distance. Ran the same beach again this evening, sand running is difficult! However, the nice thing about running on the beach is getting to relax on it afterwards and cooldown/stretch.... read more
Hello friends and family, Spent the ENTIRE day at the beach, almost 12 hours and I certainly show it. Lovely racoon eyes, it was either that or squint around the beach all day and nice piece of sun burn on my cleavage. Needless to say worth the blast that it was. This morning got there around 6:45am so I could make sure I got my free race T-shirt in the size I wanted , which I did. Then found a couple other mote interns who were going to run so we just hung out, talked with Holly and Mandy ,two of the turtle program people and listened to fun music. Then at 730 the fun run/walk one mile began and then at 8am was my 5k. They had you start in based on your speed, if ... read more
So this week has flown by. Weds went out in the field to Burnt Store and Matlacha Isles. Then had my last ladies night at beach club and a fair amount of interns came out which was nice so I could see them one last time. Thurday was my last "official" day with manatees and spent it in the office. Had a lengthy chat with John about where I'm headed next, and we discussed grad school a bit, and that I will get to use him as a reference and what not. And then I received a signed book from him which was an awfully nice gesture. Thus , now i am thinking a bit more seriously about grad school. In particular University of Florida to study manatee healing so that's kind of where I am ... read more
Hello again friends, So this morning was lovely, running late as of usual these days, I was trying to get to work early to put some finishing touches on my power point since I was giving my end of internship presentation later in the afternoon. I'm stopped on the corner by the big university parkway and lockwood ridge, and I get rearended by this sixty something woman! Her front emblem of her hyundai is now apparent on my bumper and there are some scrapes. Nothing too major, I will be able to make it back northwards fine hopefully, however now I will most likely be getting a new bumper. Way to spiff up the old corolla eh? Anyways, went out to lunch at Mattisons for my end of internship meal on the mote staff, and then ... read more
