The weekend planned in San Luis Potosi was cut short due to the disgusting state of the hostel. Whatever you do, don´t stay at San Miguelito Hostel, described in the Rough Guide as a brand new place with a roof terrace, it has never been cleaned since. There´s a fusty odour and grime on everything...to give Angela her due, she made a small effort to mop the floor and was a very sweet lady but I didn´t fancy staying another night there, especially since I was the only customer! Hola amigos Kidnapping, robbery and violent street gangs spring to mind for the unannointed to Mexico City. The last thing you want to happpen is breaking down on the way from the airport in some seedy back alley...which is what happened to me. Driving through fog on an already brosk morning is enough to chill you to your bones, add to this a blast of air conditioning, an open window and not enough warm clothes and you have one cold Zoe. There are quite a lot of overweight Mexicans. no surprise really when thereare tasty deep fried snacks on every corner. Gorditas are a particular fave in the area. Literally meaning little fatties, they are maize pattie type things filled with your choice of cheese, potato, cactus leaf, beef, chicken and of course, chilli. On the road, you really appreciate a good, wholesome and cheap dinner and Queretaro really came up trumps. Well what can I say? The last week or so in BA has been a blast...there are many great cultural things to do here but I chose to enjoy the world class nightlife instead. The dancing shoes have been firmly planted on 24 hours a day... I'm looking forward to going home and having a rest! (Well, you know..) Urugauy...otherwise known as U R GAY... a more humorous name coined by our friend Mr Homer Simpson. A country of only 3.5 million people..yes, only half the size of London...and Americans call us quaint! There's nothing special here, but then nothing really bad either. The land is flat and farmed, houses are well maintained, the coastline is attractive and the capital is laidback and a mix of historic and modern. Hola amigos! Well, it was a fleeting trip (11 days) through Paraguay but a really great experience. The people here are so warm and friendly...historically holding out their welcoming arms to Mennonites, Nazi’s, Japanese and MOONIES! She was a showgirl, da,da, da, da, da,da, da.. So with the backing vocals sung by two Cornish girls, I launched my pop career into Bolivia and the people of Copacabana acted politely impressed as if they hadn't heard it all before (muchas gracias Hannah and Jennie). What a beautiful little town..we were impressed by the 10 Boliviano hostal (70 pence) and the 12 Bol beer (700 cl) but not by the cold chip dinner.
