Amnesty International is a global movement of people who fight for unfairness and injustice and promote the human rights. They work to protect people who face issues where they don't recieve justice, truth, freedom, etc. Their main goal is to create a safer world for people to live in. While fighting for human rights, the three tactics they use are Research, Action, and Advocacy. One of the articles that I read was about the abolishment of the death penalty in Connecticut. Amnesty International felt that it was definite violation of human rights because protecting human rights means limiting government power. They feel that the the government is wasting millions of dollars on death row when the money can be used for to support policies that will be beneficial to society. I agree with everything that Amnesty ... read more

My spring break was by far the most amazing and relaxing trip ever! First, I went to Washington, D.C for student acceptance day at Howard University. I was lucky enough to stay on campus with my big sister for the weekend and I was able to meet new people, watch some probates, go to a few dorm socials, tour the campus, and tour D.C. Because Howard is an HBCU, I felt welcomed and connected to a lot of people. It did my heart some good to know that people who look just like me are going to school to change the world; everyone I met was super smart! After my trip to D.C, I traveled to Mississippi to visit my great grandmother's home and some other family members. I must say, I enjoyed the southern cooking. ... read more

1. I would like to give a shout out to Keyvn Velazco for working really hard this year. I have noticed how seriously he has taken his work. I enjoy working with him because he is very reliable and he gets the job done. He always asks great questions. 2. I would also like to give a shout out to Leah Blocker. She is a great help in Pre Calc. I notice that she always asks questions, sometimes the same ones I have, and she is always attentative. Her participation makes the class a little bit more exciting. 3. I would lastly like to give a shout out to Princess Nelson for being the "mother" of our advisory. She is a great organizer. Princess is always reminding me what was for homework and she always has ... read more

I have always believed that how you treat others will definitely impact the way your life will end up. I was always told that what goes around comes around, and sometimes the outcome will be good and other times the outcome will be bad. Treating people how you want to be treated is very important because you never know where you will end up in life. Sometimes you don’t realize how bad you treat a person until they are gone, and by then it is entirely too late to apologize. Growing up, I was the type of child who always spoke my mind. I never bit my tongue for anybody. I felt that in order for me to have a close-knit relationship with a lot of people, they needed to know how I felt about them. ... read more

KONY 2012 1. My article was about Joseph Kony. Joseph Kony is a man in Uganda who kidnaps children and ruin their lives. He takes them from the parents and turns the girls into sex slaves and the boys into soldiers. He makes them kill their own parents and mutilate people's face. This is very tragic and sad because I am a young adult and I get to live a happy life while my people in another country are faced with things that I could never imagine. I feel like it is my job to do something. Watching the video of those children made me cry because it's so many of them who are facing devastating times. Kony has been doing this for 26 years and this is just now going national. I feel like if ... read more

The Columbian Exchange and Triangular trade has affected current day foods and culture because when Christoper Columbus supposedly discovered America, different goods would be traded to the other countries. Recipe: Fried Corn The origins of this recipe is Central America and Mexico regions. My family identifies with the fried corn recipe because it's a recipe that was created in the south, especially where my mother is from. I think people should have access to a variety of foods to see how food tastes and learn more about the cultures and origins of the food. Food is an important aspect of one's culture because it is what brings people together. Fried Corn ingredients: Corn, sugar, pimentos, flower, milk, etc.... read more

1. Some of the reasons that books are banned in high school is because sex, profanity, and racism occur in the schools as well as the books that the students are reading. 2. I do not agree with any one of these reasons because I personally feel that one day each topic will be brought up and it's best to know what happened in the past and what is happening today opposed to being ignorant of the fact that sex, profanity, and definitely racism occurs in every day life. I think students are being hindered from learning some of the material that they should learn. Just like some people agree that it takes away from the rights stated by the first amendment, I also agree with that. 3. I do not agree with any of the ... read more

1. I agree with Castiglione's description of what makes a man ideal. I agree because in my opinion, all men should be loving, smart, attain knowledge, and enjoy life. Castiglione said that men shold love art and dance, and most importantly be intelligent. What he is describing is a well-rounded man. The ideal man should not limit themselves to certain things. He should enjoy all aspects of life and be smart at the same time. In today's society, it is hard to find the "perfect" man. No man is perfect, but not all men have those attributes that Castiglione is talking about. Luc... read more

1. A mountain that I think I have climbed since being at UICCP is adapting to the school rules and working with a mix of different people. Where I came from was predominantly African American and the school was 4 times bigger than UICCP, and the rules were not strict at all. I had more freedom at my old school and adapting to the new school rules and policies and adjusting my life so that I may succeed in UICCP has been a really huge mountain. I've never had a problem abiding by rules, it's just hard to switch from something I have always been used to, to something totally opposite. The people that helped me cross the mountain were my friends and myself. 2. The immediate mountain that is before me my second semester of ... read more
