I'm a senior who goes to UIC College Prep High School. I like sports, especially soccer, and I like to write. I like to laugh and hang out with friends whether it's for school work or just to relax. It's important for me to study world history because I can learn about other important events and cultures, and I would connect other historical events to our American history and figure out how both are connected.

1. What was the most challenging part of this year for you? The most challenging part of this year was taking AP chemistry and AP calculus. These classes made me want to bang my head on my desk at times because I was trying to understand the material. I would say that the questions on the AP exam were a little more merciful than the class, but everything fell into place towards the end of the year. I'm glad it all did make sense. 2. What are three things you did this year to help your classmates? When my classmates needed help, I provided help, especially for topics I understood well. One thing I did was that I stayed up late with some classmates to help out with chemistry and important essays. I also walked through ... read more

After looking through the Amnesty website, I've learned that the orginization is about fighting for human rights around the world. The site addresses more than one story about events that involve people being stripped of their rights. Although human rights have been defined in the Declaration of Human Rights, Amnesty shows us that people are still fighting for the same rights. Some cases are for women, speech, etc. One case involves more than one country, and Amnesty is fighting to have an act put up to protect that right. The right to the internet is free for everyone, right? According to Amnesty, there are countries that have restrictions regarding internet use. For instance, people in China, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Vietnam, and Syria have to be careful about what they say on the internet. The site gives an ... read more

The college that I plan on attending is the University of Michigan. After looking through all of the clubs the school has, I decided that I would try to join the women's soccer club. I picked this club because I love to play soccer, and I thought joining a club would help balance out my atheltic and academic life. Soccer is something I don't want to stop doing because my fondest memories are during soccer season. I think I would be able to create more by playing soccer in college.... read more

During my spring break, I didn't travel too far from home. My usual visits were to Harrison Park and Patty's house. At Harrison Park, I had practice with the soccer team. We did various drills and exercises to build our strength and skills. As a result of the exercises and drills, the girls are able to dribble the ball more efficiently and trust each other a lot more. At Patty's house, Patty and I worked on school work. To be more specific, we worked on our chemistry homework, for we had similar problems on the same topics. After looking through the book together, we discovered the simple mistakes that we missed, and we were able to recognize how to interpret the answers to problems more easily. As for quarter four of school, I am truly looking ... read more

Here are my shout outs to: Juana Ojeda I think Juana is doing a fantastic job at performing well in her academics. I know that she is working really hard to bring up her grades because she goes to office hours and asks for help when she needs it. I also know that all of her hard work resulted in an increase in her grades. Good job, Juana. Don't stop the hard work. Patty Murillo Patty is a very Noble student. She offers help when someone needs the help, and she doesn't turn down someone who can't do an assignment alone. I know this becuase she helps me understand financial terms, and she doesn't turn me away if I still don't understand. Thank you, Patty. I appreciate your help, and I'm sure others appreciate your help, ... read more

I believe that writing is a personal sanctuary. “Sanctuary” is used to describe “freedom,” and I think “freedom” is closely associated with writing. I’m sure when one thinks of writing, one imagines a scholar typing away on a laptop or home computer about subjects to bore their readers. That vision, however, is not the case here. I am talking about writing setting one’s mind at peace. Writing can be in the form of a journal, diary, short story, or random scribbles. Either one works in this case, for I am sure that either style will benefits one’s mind. When writing, a writer is not only putting down words. A writer is pouring out his or her mind’s contents and setting his or her mind free. When the contents are all out, there is a great amount ... read more

1. According to the article, how is modern slavery different from earlier forms of slavery throughout history? There are no separate housing quarters and there is no plantations or auction blocks in today's society. 2. Why does this movement against human sex trafficking connect to the legacy of President Lincoln? Slavery was abolished by Lincoln, but there is still practice of slavery today. Because there is still practice of slavery, there is the question of slavery really being abolished. 3. Describe the Polaris project. What do you think about this project? The columbian Exchange and Triangle Trade affected current day food by allowing traders to exchange different types of crops. A common recipe my family likes to make is caldo de pollo (or chicken soup), which includes potatoes, carrots, celery, and chicken. 1. I am not sure of the soup's exact origin, but I know that the soup is a Latin American dish. 2. My family does identify with the recipe because the recipe is taught to most of the girls in my family (which doesn't include me because I don't cook much). 3. I do believe that people should have access to a variety of foods because being diverse allows people to get to know what they like (even if the food is completely odd to a person). 4. I do believe food is an important ... read more
