I'm a senior at UIC College Prep, ready and interested to learn World History! Learning History is important to me because you have to know how things came about; furthermore, it can be a way to learn from the past to not relive the not-so glorious moments. I was born and raised in Chicago. I love to travel, so I hope to do it as I get older.

Amnesty International This website has been around for about 50 years now and it is basically a worldwide movement that helps fight the wrongdoings of people to protect human rights. Some of the issues they help deal with are related to prisoners, poverty, the dealth penalty, refugees, little education for children, etc. One of the majr issues I found was about marrige equality and how it is really a human right that people have struggled with in the past rather than it being a state right. The article I found on the website(www.amnestyusa.org) discusses that President barrack Obama is the first U.S. president to favor marriage equality. The article also states that people being able to marry who ever they want is affecting peope's other aspects of life. The article states that if people do not ... read more

I am still not 100% sure where I want to go to school this fall, but my first choice is Loyola University. Some of the student organizations they offer that I would be interested in joinging are under the category of Political/Social Issues. There are several to choose from but the ones that really stood out to me were Invisible conflicts, Autism Speaks, and Model United Nations. The student-led organization Invisible conflicts is mainly allowing victims, of the conflicts that are occurring worldwide, to tell their stories. The students at Loyola then find practical ways to help others & transform communities both at home and in conflict regions. They can really help make a difference in the world and I would love to be a part of that; I also love helping people. Autism Speaks U LUC ... read more

Top Ten list of the best experiences I've had at UICCP 1.) Breaking Through 21 -The first graduating class of UICCP broke through 21, which proved a new possible. We were all trying hard to reach that goal and practiceed in and outside of class. I was so proud of everyone that day:we had a town hall to tell everyone the great news that we would be receiving iPads and we were celebrating that day. 2.) Friends -Students at UICCP are amazing! They are not only dedicated hard workers, but they are also great people to be around and we make a great big family. 3.) Teachers -The teachers at UICCP are extremely dedicated to their students. I appreciate their hard work and cmmittment to their careers. 4.) UICCP Volleyball! -Our team had some ups and downs ... read more

http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/09/opinion/bradshaw-benner-kony/index.html The article I chose this week was titled "How Obama Should Stop Kony" By now, many people have seen the video made by Invisible Children that shows the Lord's Resistance Army. The LRA is a rebel group in Uganda that has evolved into a brutal force that has abducted tens of thousands of civilians(mainly children), forcing them to serve as soldiers or sex slaves, has killed tens of thousands, and has displaced more than 2million in four African nations:Uganda, newly independent South Sudan, the democratic republic of Congo and the Central African Republic. The overall message of the Invisibe Children is to Arrest Kony: the leader of the LRA. The article linked above sets out what the U.S. government needs to do to arrest ... read more

http://thecnnfreedomproject.blogs.cnn.com/2012/02/28/lincolns-legacy-fights-modern-slavery/ Modern slavery is different because rather than what we know as the usual slave owners, plantations, and slaves working on the fields, this type of slavery is mainly sex trafficking. The people in charge of these "slaves" are getting a lot of money, dehmanizing the people they choose to enslave, and even using children against their own will. This movment of human sex traffickiing connects to the legacy of president Lincoln by slavery still going on today, just more secretly, and he was the one that supposedly abolished slavery. The Polaris project is descr... read more

"High School Banned Books" Some of the reasons as to why books are being banned in some high schools are because they may include sex, profanity, or racism. Often, challenges are motivated by the desire to protect children which may include parents, teachers, librarians, etc. Although some children should not be exposed to such topics or any other issues that the general public may disagree with due to lack of maturity and even self-control, I strongly believe that no book should be banned from a high school student. They should get to know what is the world around them, major issues, experience a variety of genres, and have a wide range of different books and different authors they have read by the time they attend college. Overall, I don't agree with banning books from others' eyes ... read more

Name of Interviewee: Magdalena Quijano 2.)Relationship to Interviewee: Mother 3.)Decade of Choice: 1980-90 4.)Describe the environment in which you lived in for that time period: At times, being outside was unsafe and where I lived, there were a lot of gangs nearby so I had to be careful whenever I was able to go out. We were very close with our neighbors and defintely had more time and money to go out places. My mom was very uptight though, so I couldn't go out much with my boyfriend or my friends because she believed the world was too dangerous. 5.)What major activities did you participate in? I volunteered at the office in the mornings during high school. I worked at Jewel a little after graduating. I then moved with my new husband and ... read more

1.) I agree with Castiglione's description of what makes an man ideal during the Renaissance. He describes the ideal man as a man that has to be pretty much be perfect. He described this man as being smart, fluent in languages, play a lot of instruments, they have to be romantic when it comes to females, they have to be strong and play sports. In a way i agree, but then again, no one is perfect. I think this because some men may be very talented but others may only specialize in one of those areas. I don't believe men like Castiglione described exist today because, like I said, no one is perfect and I think most men focus on one talent and try to improve from there. 2.) I think Castiglione thought men should live ... read more
