Ibiza!! What a better way to shake some homesickness than crashing our good friends honeymoon in Ibiza! Scotty and Sandra told us they were honeymooning in Spain and we naturally invited ourselves to join them. It was so great to see people from home and to hear all about their beautiful wedding. We watched the sun set at the famous Cafe del Mar and enjoyed dinner together. We of course got into the cocktails and took the party down to the beach. Our first night out clubbing was to Amnesia to see Paul Van Dyke. What an amazing venue! They have [View Full Entry]

The Rioja reigion in Spain is known for its wine and beautiful townships. We decided we needed some rest after San Fermin and booked ourselves into a fabulous little village called Brinas for 4 days on the edge of the Ebro river. Our hotel was a 400 year old residence and one of the first buildings in that area. And so began the 3rd leg of the marathon, Sleep! We got in touch with the traditional Siesta that takes place every day between 2 and 4... but the hours can be adjusted to just about anything that suits you. Brinas had [View Full Entry]

They say there is a "Spanish Marathon" and it consists of 3 very serious activities, Eating, Drinking, and Sleeping. In the month of July we trained vigorously in each activity, and consider ourselves to be extremely conditioned by this point. We entered Spain by ferry boat from Morocco to the port of Algeciras. We picked up a rental car and a backpacker named Gus and hit the Costa del Sol. We drove up the coast to Granada in our tiny little Citroen and heard all about Gus's travels in Morocco. He turned out to be a really cool guy from England [View Full Entry]

Casablanca Welcome to Morocco! The journey to get here was long and painful. In a nut shell it consisted of another Sea Sick ferry boat, two airplanes and an overnight in Dubai. It was all worth it to step into a new world, totally different from the last. Our first impression of Morocco was a surprise to see how European the architecture and decor was. Almost all citizens speak perfect French as well as Arabic, and the signage is all in French. Kerri was instantly tested on her French skills as we had to get a train ticket to the [View Full Entry]

Zanzibar is a world apart from all the other beach destinations we’ve visited before. It is a small island off the coast of Tanzania, full of old history. It’s more commonly known as the Spice Islands because it has loads of spice plantations that traded with the rest of the world as far back as the 18th century. The main port is called Stone Town, and for centuries was a massive player in the business of slave trade. Many of the old buildings from that time are still standing in town and seem eerily full of sad stories. We didn’t spend [View Full Entry]

Mount Kilimanjaro; a new trekking experience for us and a challenging one at that! This time around we solicited the help of a trekking outfit called The African Walking Company to help us summit the highest point in Africa. It was a very different experience compared to our Himalayan trekking with just one guide. We were in a group of 12 very unique and interesting people, and had an entourage of 42 porters, cooks, guides and helpers to haul us up the mountain. It takes that many people to assemble all the tents and carry them up to the next camp [View Full Entry]

Longest Day of our Lives

Welcome to Africa! What a change from Egypt, getting off the plane into humid air. We saw an amazing view of Mt Kilimanjaro while we flew in, and were instantly flooded with the realization that we were hiking up there… above the clouds where the planes fly…on a glacier! We landed in Kilimanjaro in the morning, and drove to the town of Moshi at the base of the mountain. It is bustling with locals selling and gathering goods for all the treks that fan outward from Moshi. The hillsides are filled with coffee and banana plantations (two of Aaron’s favorites), as [View Full Entry]

We have so much to say about Egypt, you might want to take a seat, this is a long one! Back in Cairo we joined up with our first organized tour group: Imaginative Traveler. Its a budget tour company that organizes tours all over the globe, for just about any age group. We were in a group of 9 people, some from England and the rest from Australia. We started out with a bang, and discovered the pyramids the first day. We have grown up with pictures of these giants, seen them on tv and movies more times than we can [View Full Entry]

Boat for the after life-- pretty nice
Massive size no words can describe

We can't say enough about Egypt!! What a fantastic gem, we were totally impressed with our time here... all 26 days! We landed in Cairo in the evening and were pleasantly greeted by a mild 28 degrees. Our cab driver quickly took us to our Hotel and we got our first glimps of this amazing city. The traffic lanes in Egpyt are purely decoration, and there are usually 3-4 cars squeezed into our standard 2 car space. They come within centimeters of each other and are covered in dents and scrapes from the millions of fender benders that occur everyday. They [View Full Entry]

We left India on a 3:30am flight to Dubai feeling better, but worn out and filthy. When we arrived in Dubai at 7:00am, it felt like stepping into luxury. Even the airport is pimped out with high end shopping and restaurants. It gets even better, because Aaron (who just won husband of the year award) surprised us with a Spa day he had booked months ago at Le Meridien!! I know, I'm still in shock, it was the best surprize possible as I was a filfithy mongrel at this point. We were pampered and polised up for Dubai, and Aaron had [View Full Entry]
