You two are amazing. Deb would really be impressed with the luggage. Sometimes when I read your blogs I feel like I have been to all these great sites myself. As much as I miss you I am happy just knowing what a great time you're having seeing all the wonderful countries of the world. Speaking of growing rich, wow, Napoleon Hill gould learn from you. I must admit that your sister Jennifer is a dynamic life coach to have helped you decide to spend your life this way. Can't imagine what comes next!! I love you both. MOM xxxxxx00000

Kim and Dan, Everytime Thomas and I look at your blog we are more and more inclined to travel. We are seriously considering moving abroad for a year with the kids. We would possibly start in Spain, because my friends Mom owns a house north of Madrid and she only goes once a year and we might be able to stay there for a couple of months. I, think we are truly serious about this. We would have to home school Caiden, but we are more than capable of this. We are both finding it very liberating about liquidating most of the junk we have acquired over the years, so much unnecessary stuff. Well I'll keep you posted... Aimee

wow, now i read your comments. cruising McHenry, what were we thinking??? Gas was cheap back then. Remember fountain outside of the Sundial?? well I am not sure who, but one of my fellow cruisers, but a open bottle of dish detergent in it, probably by accident, lol, by the time we made one pass down McHenry and came back the bubbles were to the sidewalk, what a sight. old times, innocent fun.

Hi Dan & Kim, Great Pix! Keep them coming. BTW, Peg is with us for a few days and it is wonderful. Too bad it's under such sad circumstances. Life goes on and we are enjoying each other while we can. Love you, Nancy P.S. Uncle Rich is doing pretty well and is leaving today for Florida to be with Linda & Jerry. They are both holding up very well. Linda is very strong and is still other centered worrying about her Mom and daughter. What a great family we have.

- From: Flying by the Seats of Our Pants
This is early aviation parlance. Aircraft initially had few navigation aids and flying was accomplished by means of the pilot's judgment. The term emerged in the 1930s and was first widely used in reports of Douglas Corrigan's flight from the USA to Ireland in 1938. http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/139400.htm I think you guys will always see more of the people and learn more of "who" a place is, rather than what is built there traveling like you've described. The idea of stopping at the cafe who's fresh herbs and spices, sizzling on the grill, calling your name, is appealing to me. I made a mental note of finding places to stay and how. Go with the flow Kim (now where did that come from?). Personally I thought traveling like a hippie was more amusing than flying by the seat on the pants. I love seeing your journals! You've been to some amazing places and seen sights most only dream of. Uncle Freddy

Great Pics - From: Flying by the Seats of Our Pants
Hi Kim & Dan, The pictures are great! This is the part of the world where, for a brief period of time, the three main religions, Judaism, Islam & Chiritianity lived in relative harmony. The only thing that survived is the medieval architecture. The harmony dissolved when the Christian hierarchy pressed for supremacy. I beleive there are some today who hanker for those old days of the Inquisition. They think bloodletting in the name of Jesus is a good thing. Well on alighter note, hope you had a good time. I know nothing about the origin of the phrase 'flying by the seat of the pants'. Personally, I never let my pants go without me in them. Love you, Nancy P.S. Come and visit us in Chicago, which is sometimes very medievel.

Miss you! I stress that your tour of life is commendable and is a great schedule. Congrats! When you attain my 72+, your recollections will be more than augmented by photos! Your neck "situation" may be the commencement of a chronic malady sustained by over- active folks; I've got it and was at Duke Integrated Med just yesterday PM. After seeing over 12 different experts for 3 years, the only releaving action are stretches, head shoulder to shoulder, chin to chest, and back of head as far back as possible. That alleviates my agony, but neck brace, for me, is not the way to go. I tried chiro manipulations to now avail as the over activity for the last 72 years have simply caused wear and tear with tears now! Good luck, bit I fear your malady has three letters: AGE! By the way, I yet vanguish younger tennis players. Two yesterday AM: one of 17 years followed by the 27 year old director of athletics at local HS. They just don't build them like they used to! I want to go to Australia! - From: Christmas and New Years in Sydney
Hi Kim & Dan, Happy New Year. Thanks for the great photos of your trip. They made me want to visit Australia. It is unbelieveably beautiful. Most of what I've seen was of the desolate outback. BTW, we have cousins in Perth. I know that is on the opposite coast, so vistors don't often make it to both Sydney & Perth. They are cousins from Moots mother's family. Stay well and have a wonderful 2009. I'm planning on a great '09 myself. Love, Nancy

Aunt Nancy Taylor and Reply - From: Edinburgh
Dear Kim & Dan, Thanks for the beautiful photos and the historical info. Makes me want to rush over to Scotland, but must see Ireland first. Dan, your grandmother, Mary Whitton Kerwin's father was part Scotish and his last name (Whitton) is from one of the original 13 clans. At least that is the info I got when I visited England. Keep those travel reports coming, I love them. We were all very glad that you two were in Scotland and not India during the attacks in Mumbia. Stay well and safe. Come and visit Chicago soon. Remember this is the home of the President-Elect. Love, Nancy Hi Nancy, Kim and I were out dancing last night (Delhi) and the DJ was mixing Obama speeches with the music. How cool is that? It is like MLK and JFK had a baby. I wish would could have handed Obama the reigns before it got this bad. Now it will be hard just to keep us afloat. Thanks for reminding me about your mother's (my grandmother's) connection to Scotland. I don't recall ever knowing that. So Whitton is one of the original 13 clans. Nice to know, thanks! I love you, Dan P.S. Please thank Mary for putting up the family photo album, that is fun to look at.

robin hood? - From: Florence and Chianti
It took me awhile to figure out what you are talking about Ian B. But I finally figured it out. Robin migrated to Italy and has been the livestock keeper at that Chianti Castle since his arrival in the 50s. Ellis slept his way into the family that currently owns the castle and makes wine, and since Ellis' only talent is talking, they put him in charge of castle tours.

I love you! - From: Rome
Hi Nancy, Yes, I think Italy may be our most favorite trips so far. Though France and Greece were also such great destinations that it would be a tough call to make. I am afraid my perspective on poverty has been so shifted after living in India for 20 months that I am no longer able to spot poverty as quickly when I see it in the USA or Europe. The homeless I see in the west seem better fed and less deformed. Speaking of the Catholic church ... Kim has been spending time at Mother Theresa's home for the orphans in Delhi and enjoying it very much. Her job there is to hold and give attention to children under the age of 2 years. I hear everyone was in Chi-town recently and I wish we were there to see you all together. Give everyone a hug for me. Love, Dan

Rome is beautiful - From: Rome
Dear Dan & Kim, Looks like you enjoyed Rome as much as we did. It was a magical trip and we found the Italians to be wonderful hosts. We had lunch across the street from the Trevi fountain and were surprised how small it was compared to the depiction in the move "Three Coins in the Fountain" Vatican City was amazing. However, I was a bit embarrassed by the opulence of St. Peter's and the Vatican Museum. Being a recovering Catholic, I found myself apologizing to my non-Catholic friends. You know that massive wealth in the face of so much poverty. Oh well, it is a Catholic thing, guilt. I loved the Sistene (?) Chapel. It was under renovation at the time and there was a lot of scafolding blocking full view of the Michaelangelo masterpiece. It was still thrilling to be there and see any part of it. It is good to see that you have recovered, Dan. We hope to someday meet you, Kim, and introduce you to the crazy Kerwins. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, re your life and travels. Much Love, Nancy & Matt

IP 15--Death Row - From: Mysore, Return of the Prodigal Sunjay
IP 15 Death Row Hommies, Sunjay M, who goes by the street name "Money" and Dan Bell, with street name "Buk Fity" (cuz he is 3 times the man as 50 cent) were spotted in Mysore recently by a passing photographer. Authorities were notified. They are not known to be armed or dangerous and put together they couldn't rap themselves out of a paper bag, so we are not sure why anyone bothered to notify authorities. They escaped from the north side corridor on the 15 floor of KS facilities. They were serving a self-imposed sentence of indeterminate duration when they made their escapes.

Yes - From: French Riviera: We Love Nice, People
There are Russians running around the French Riviera for sure. But I wouldn't say that they are obviously over-represented as compared to other foreigners. There are still more Brits than any other foreigners as far as I could tell, but it still seems mostly French.

playground of Russian oligarchs - From: French Riviera: We Love Nice, People
Today's edition of the french newspaper Le Monde was all abuzz over the purchase by some unnamed russian oligarch of an estate near Nice (somewhere on the cape between Nice and Monaco) for 300 to 500 million Euros. The mayor of Nice commented that would be most of the city's annual budget. So are the russians actually annexing Nice as the fear mongering papers suggest? Did you even encounter any expat russians in the Nice nightlife?
