August 29th

August 29thOur real long day yesterday was countered today by a very SHORT day as it was only a 9.7 mile ride to get the rest of the way into Nrnburg. Tried to follow the river most of the way into the city but finally got pushed into the city by construction which had closed down the bike paths. Once again praise be to our Garmin GPS for getting us to the hotel we reserved even if it DIDN

August 28th

August 28thA LONG day today as we biked 40.4 miles out of Bamberg towards Nrnburg. Even more amazing was that while most of Germanyrsquos bicycle trails are the Land of Milk and Honey as far as biking goes today we did about a third of the ride on gravel paths. Granted these gravel paths were in better condition than most of the roads Irsquove seen in either San Jose or San Diego P but

Funny side note that Irsquod forgotten to addWe rode into town and through most of it without finding a hotel or gasthous. We stopped and Margaret pulled out the Garmin and used the ldquopoints of interestrdquo function to pull up a list of the local hotels. She chose the one at the top of the list closest without looking and hit ldquoGordquo to navigate to it. The GPS then said

August 23rdSo our 4star euro130 night hotel didn't call the airline boycott US Airways at their opening time of 7am like we asked. Mr. Murphy has definitely stowed away in our luggage somewhere this trip The soonest thez could deliver the luggage was this afternoon so we said to hell with that checked out and headed back to the airport once again. While on the phone talking to

Made it with 10 minutes to spare. The dynamic duo met up in Phoenix to continue on to Philadelphia. Unfortunately the bird was bent.
Sunday the 25th of JuneAll good things must come to an end unfortunately. We started today by meeting one of Erinrsquos old foreignexchange students Charllie at the Arc de Triomphe at 1100. It was a rainy day off and on all day but at least we werenrsquot riding in it again. We strolled down the Champs Elysees eventually going to a unique restaurant that also was a technology showc

Saturday the 24th of JuneStarted out our train ride today by almost missing our train. We were an hour early and a train pulled into our platform within 10 minutes of our being there. We thought it was a different train and would be moving on but time wore on and the train didnrsquot move. Margaret had gone down off of the platform looking for drinks and Erin and Jesse were on the platfo

Tuesday the 20th of JuneOur original plan when we walked the 2km down to the train station yesterday was purchasing tickets to Triere and wersquod ride from there to Kln. We looked at the map again before bed and realized wersquod blown our math again and couldnrsquot make it to Kln. Math is hard So when we got to the train station this morning we spent 20 minutes or so getting the

Friday the 16th of JuneGood news Itrsquos cool today and not raining. Bad news Long 30 mile day with some pretty bad hills on our way to Doulcon. The scenery has changed some more as itrsquos wont to do on long trips with the fields of grain turning more to pastures filled with cows sheep and some horses. We all kind of felt like we hit a wall about 2 hours into the ride. Riding e

Wednesday the 14th of JuneFinally a day where we bike out of town and donrsquot have to go up a hill As well we didnrsquot get lost going out of town this time. The last several days have been VERY hot while we were biking so we decided that wersquod wake up early and start the ride early in the day before it got too hot. This was a GOOD plan.
The flight and first day

Well we started out our trip by almost missing our plane out of San Diego Our tickets said boarding was at 700 but theyrsquod moved it up to 640. After waiting in line at checkin for almost an hour and then waiting about 15 to 20 minutes to clear security we figured wersquod have time to grab some breakfast to go at McDonalds. Jesse Erin waited in line while Margaret went ahead.
