Guam What can I say

 Oceania » Guam
Tall buildings, traffic jams, rude drivers are my most vivid impressions. It’s probably not fair to visit Guam after the magic of Yap. Not surprisingly, American culture rules and the US military have bases all over the island. The crew can’t wait to get to Cotsco and the largest Kmart in the world to stock up on necessities. The shopping ladies on board went wild to find large malls with all the usual stores. Shopping has been a bit meager since New Caledonia. The island vegetation is the result of efforts by the US. After the bombing in WWII most of [View Full Entry]

At sea and Guam

 Oceania » Guam
Sunday, March 16, 2008 Today is another sea day so it is filled with activities like eating, going to the fitness center, eating again, playing BINGO, and then eating again. You might have to roll everyone off the ship in Japan - although many are staying on until Hong Kong, and came on 14 days before us by touring Australia and the south island of New Zealand. I can handle 3 weeks on board by not sure right now I want to do a 53 day voyage. Maybe someday, but not now. The show tonight was a Statendam Cast show, [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone, So much has happened since my last confession… I am sorry it took me so long. I will try to update you all in the next few days but first I must recount my weekend trip to Guam on the first weekend of February. The Seoul Sisters are always looking for fun and rugby so why not head to Guam (a US territory in the South Pacific) to get some of that. When I heard about the planned tour, I signed up, anything to get out of Korea and travel. Plus, who goes to Guam? Has any of [View Full Entry]

My second day of travel to Palau takes me to Guam. A tiny island in the middle of the North Atlantic through which most flights to places in the North Pacific seem to go. It was a strange, strange experience, as I had to go through U.S. immigration (always a bundle of laughs), only to find myself emerging from the arrivals onto a hot and rainy tropical island! I didn't know what to expect but it definitely did not feel like I was in the U.S. Nonetheless, what I got was a little slice of America, with the massive roads, MacDonalds, [View Full Entry]

Scuba Diving in Guam

 Oceania » Guam
I was in Guam for more than 4 weeks. It was another business trip with my second company/employer. I remember landing at the airport, which was overlooking the city and the sea. Guam is pretty much small; we were able to drive around the main island of Guam in about two hours! I liked it. It was small and sunny. I can say it has the best of both worlds. As my boss says, you live a life like you are in the Philippines due to similar weather and timezone, but you earn green money! We walked along Tumon Bay, and [View Full Entry]
