Well now, how does one get from Bangkok to Ayuthaya. I thought by minivan, but that might not be the best option after all. The journey to Ayuthaya is a story in itself. So here we go.
I was told I would be picked up at the guesthouse and then taken by minivan to Ayuthaya. So at 12.15 someone ran into the guesthouse calling Ayuthaya, Ayuthaya, come come!! So I hurried after him with my backpack. Together with some tourists we were pushed into a minivan and off we went. Although at the time I did not really know what that meant, being pushed into a minivan and hurried off.
When we came to the victory monument I alone was hurried out of the minivan and put in a new one. They said it would leave in 10 minutes. But after 20 minutes someone came back and I had to go to a different minivan. Luckily, this had ayuthaya written on it. So there I was waiting, with only thai people around me who spoke no word of english. About 40 minutes later we finally took off.
After about an hour we stopped, and we kept standing still under a
bridge (thankfully). We stood there for at least 30 minutes, just at the side of a motorway. And then ... a minivan was there, but it was on the other side, which meant all of us had to cross the motorway, with cars speeding past us to get, to the other minivan. Only to find it filled with boxes and people. So we have to squeeze into it. I can tell you, i am too tall to stand in a minivan, and the road was getting more bumbier by the minute.
However, it is kind of fun if you think about it. You don't understand a word and you just have to rely on the fact that people know where you want to go and let yourself be pushed around. Which I can tell you is not that easy for me. But finally I got to ayuthaya, only a few hours late.
So what else have i been doing, seeing the sights of course. I added a few pictures so that you can see what I have seen. During the hot hours of the day it is almost impossible to do anything. I always thought I liked heat, but
I am struggling with it this time.
I have seen the temples in the day time but also in the evening, when they are beautiful lit. You can't go into them, but you can admire them from a distance.
I have met a lot of nice people, however I have to say that names with ' chris' seem to be very popular among packpackers, because I met 4 guys and 1 girl with it in their names. The evenings I spend rarely alone but during the day i am alot by myself. I find that difficult at times. I think that once I get to chang mai I will sign up for some tours, even though they are expensive.
Well I am doing fine. The next update will be in a few days with new pictures, but than of chang mai. And I really hope it will a bit cooler there! Or go up into the mountains otherwise :) Plenty of opportunities I am sure.
Thank you for your messages!
