As advised by most people we arrived at Ko Pha Ngan a few days early to get accomidation, you can get a better place and a cheaper price. We've also heard stories of people arriving the day of and all their stuff being taken from their room while they are out :(
We found a nice little guest house a 10 minute walk out of Haad Rin town; it's close enough to walk so you dont have to get ripped off by taxis but you can still get peace and sleep at night.
We did a bike tour of the Island on our first day just to see what was around. Most of the riding was fine but there are a few big hills and lost of sand on the roads so going slow is the only way to avoid a "Ko Pna Ngan Tattoo". We went out that night to check out the bars to see the build up for the full moon.
Pretty nice places but the music wasn't up to much, I'd expect better on full moon night, we ended up chillin' at Mellow Mountain where you can chat with people and have a laugh.
2
days kind of got wasted because we had to go to bed early to get up at 4am to do a border run to Malaysia. If you enter Thailand over land you only get a 15 day visa even if like us you have a flight out in 30 days. It cost us 2000B, so it looks like a money making scam to me but the government say it's to stop travelers staying and working, or something... money out of my pocket either way!!!
Eventually the full moon night came, I think the pictures tell a better story so theres not much for me to say. When doing the black maori face the marker ran out and I had to run to the 7/11 half painted, I think I got wierder looks then than when it was finished... well maybe not...
There was better music on the night as expected andthe guide book filled us in on where to go but we spent most of the night sitting on the beach chatting to anyone who would talk.
The party ran on till the next night when we all went to bed early, it a 11am pick p
to move on to Ko Tao for diving.
