Tony and I chilling out. Luckily he already had a bone to knaw on! (NB - no lions were harmed in the making of this picture)
After somehow surviving the NY eve we embarked on a tortuous 26 hour journey overland in 8 different vehicles before arriving in KL at 5am to see Chelski snatching a point against Villa 😊

Whilst here we blitzed the city and visited:

Petronas Towers - currently the 2nd and 3rd tallest buildings in the world standing at 451.9m. Unfortunately, you can only go up to the bridge on the 41st floor and not all the way up to the 81st floor 😞
We also watched Casino Royale here for 1.50 sterling (soz no pound sign on this blinking keyboard!). Good film but the continuity was shot to bits as anything even slightly rude or violent is taken out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KL Tower
National history museum - it was a bit confusing as the country didn't seem to have any history prior to 1824 until we realised it was being refurbished and most of the exhibits had been dismantled. Oh yeh, and after we'd paid to get in!!!
Police museum - they have lots of big guns and other boys toys in here.

I'm now on a mission to get in as many stupid video camera shots as possible - you would not believe what some people video e.g. where people are queueing to get into an attraction, the hinges of doors and now, me 😉

We also drank lots of beer - it's almost as expensive as Reading which is a change, for the worse obviously, compared to the previous countries I'd been in. Not much demand from the local Muslim population and a high tax levy.

Was a little disappointed as we didn't see any Koala bears anywhere so we then decided to fly back to Bangkok but were a little nervous as we found out that a flight in the region had disappeared 4 days previously and that it still hadn't been found...

...landed safely in Bangkok after breaking my personal fingers-crossed record.

The presence of the Police and Army is much more evident in Bangkok since the NY eve bombings. The Police are searching everyone entering the Kao San Road and even some of the bars are doing this. The Army are also constantly patroling the area with their M-16s which makes for an interesting mix when set against the chilled out nature of the travelling fraternity.

Got food poisioning for the first, and hopefully, last time on this trip. Now got a great six-pack!

Went to see some championship Muay Thai boxing at the famous Lumpini Stadium. What a vicious but action packed sport. Lots all the bets I laid against Smarty 😞

Visted Kanchanaburi to see:
WWII Allied cemetary - quite moving and puts things in perspective, especially when I saw a grave of a soldier with the same surname who died at the age I've managed to currently attain.
Took a ride on the infamous 'Death Railway'
WWII museum
Bridge over the River Kwai (rebuilt after the Allies blew it up during the war)
Tiger Temple where we actually got to sit next to fully grown tigers which are massive and would make mincemeat of a human in seconds - their paws are bigger than my head! They are raised from cubs by a monk that looks like a tanned Les Dawson wearing Dennis Taylor's specs! One of the tigers was getting a bit edgey so he just walked up to it and performed a WWF-esque move on it to wrestle it to the ground. It was fine after that. Chatted to an Aussie volunteer who said

It may be tall but I can just about touch it with my big toe
that they get fed loads of chicken (KFC??) and that they aren't, to the best of his knowledge, drugged. He also said that "...no tourists have even been hurt..." They are also nocturnal creatures so just sleep all day, however, the night time visits must be interesting 😉

Still haven't had a haircut...

Well, I'm off to Borneo next to go diving at the 3rd best site in the world so tune in next time for more interesting, and some rubbish, adventures.

That's all folks!

p.s. will try to get some vids up soon if I can get this blinking site working properly - the one of Smarty and the ladyboy is priceless!!

Realised you needed a bit more preparation than drinking Beer Lao and watching Kickboxer twice even with a height advantage of around 2 ft!
