On our way to QAui Nhon our drivers took a side trip to look at a Cham Temple. As we drove through a small village and some farm fields we came across a sacred site. It was a burial site of the kings of that area. The 3rd and last king was buried there. As we walked around, the caretaker was there and gave us a small tour of the area and what was still there from 300+ years ago. I'm glad Vy was with us because we would not have been able to understand all the history if she wasn't. And just up the road a few 100 yards were elephant statues just sitting in an area in front of someone's home. They were lifesize! Just around the corner was the Cham Temple. It was being restored but it was still very impressive. They are all about 60 or more feet in height. Some are larger.
After the tombs, we made our way to Ham Ho. Ham Ho is a beautiful area that has a waterfall quite a ways up the river. Many people come here to swim and just hang out. We walked for a while then took a
canoe back down the river. It reminded me of the upper Tahoe area with the huge granite rocks and the water. We arrived too late because we had the driver stop too many times prior but it was still pretty cool to see.
That night we stayed in Qui Nhon. It was a really nice hotel right on the beach. I wouldn't swim there though. Too many fishing boats in the area. Ted and I hit the market during the day and found a few cool things. In the evening, we had foot massages. The two girls loved Ted's big sandals. They both had to try them on and laugh. Though they didn't speak English well all understood each other. The massages were 50 minutes and were great and only $8.00 USD for the both of us. I have a thing with my calf's though. It's really too painful for me. Honestly, they beat you up. Okay, I have the same problems in the US. If they stay at the feet I'm good but once they start up the leg I freak out, quietly...
It's really deceiving to look at a map and try to determine how long it will
really take to get to the next place. We spent alot of time in the van because you travel through the small villages to get to the next city because there is no highway to speak of. This added alot of time to our schedule not being able to really visit each city. We'll know better next time and try to spend at last 3 days in one spot. These are a few pictures from the area.
