DONATED GOODS
Vietnam Airlines generously helps with free excess baggage which enables Karen to transport many kilo's of much needed donated goods to Vietnam WISHLIST
LAPTOPS Lifestart Foundation would very much like to commence computer classes for young people and adults. It would be wonderful to be able to teach basic business skills on computer and also to commence classes for our Lifestart students. The Lifestart students are studying diligently and computer classes would really enhance their learning. Ultimately giving them greater prospects in the future. We have been offered second hand desk tops from companies who are updating their computers, however we are not allowed to bring them into Vietnam. We can only receive Desktop computers from within Vietnam. Laptops can be carried in to Vietnam one at a time by volunteers or visitors for us.
OLD MOBILE PHONES Lifestart Foundation is always in need of your old mobile phones. These phones are given to people with disabilities, giving them a much needed form of communication. Phones are also used by our volunteers in Vietnam to help keep in contact when they are in the field. When donating your phone please make sure that it is not locked and that the phone can take an International Sim card. The battery charger is handy also.
WOOL Donations of wool are gratefully received.
HANH'S SCARVES
Donated wool will help Hanh with her knitting business. The wool will be used by knitters in the Lifestart Foundation Workshop to make scarves, shawls and hats. Earth tone colours would be best and enough balls to make either a scarf, shawl or hat.
BICYCLES AND HELMETS We are in need of two bicycles and helmets in Melbourne. We have two more young people, Dung and Tu coming to Australia to take up traineeships with Mariana Hardwick and they need a bicycle to get to work.
If you are able to help out with vouchers or tickets for them to see any attractions in Melbourne that would be great also.
Click here to read about the project... or
view my blog entry about last years trainees. BUTTONS Especially old and unusual buttons. We will use these for jewelery making projects in the Lifestart Foundation Workshop.
MAGAZINES If you are visiting the Lifestart Foundation Workshop in Hoi An please take magazines. We use these for our recycled products. In flight magazines are often the easiest to collect and bring in.
NEW SOCKS Nguyen, Trang and Sang make quirky sock creatures and sock people from new socks. They sell like "hot cakes" in the Lifestart Foundation Workshop in Hoi An.
TRANSPORTATION OF DONATED GOODS Are you travelling
to Vietnam? Karen always has a stockpile of donated goods at her home in Essendon, Australia. If you can help by taking a bag over to Hoi An please let us know how many kilo's you can take over for us. A bag can be packed for you and left open so as you can check the contents. If you can carry over a donated laptop that would also help as each person can only take one computer into Vietnam at a time.
ANNUAL FUNDRAISING EVENTS Lifestart Foundation's project base is rapidly expanding. We need support from individuals or groups to hold an annual fundraising event. This can be a small or large fundraiser, anywhere in the world, it all helps!
FUNDRAISING PROMOTION Volunteers are needed to promote and assist with the existing Lifestart Foundation Fundraising Events.
These include:
FUNDING AND GRANT PROPOSAL WRITING Volunteers are needed to research and apply for funding and grants for Lifestart Foundation Projects.
SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS Donations are needed for the silent auction at our Annual Christmas in July Dinner Dance and Charity Auction. Auction items can include activities as well as goods.
LIFESTART FOUNDATION WORKSHOP 77 Phan Chu Trinh Street, Hoi An. Please visit
us if you travel to Vietnam!
ART TEACHERS We are also looking for someone with experience in contemporary product design who could design marketable products and train those with disabilities in Hoi An to produce them to a professional standard. Please have a look at the previous link about the workshop to see what we are already making.
ESL TEACHERS Volunteer ESL teacher placements are now being accepted for 2010.
We already have volunteer ESL teachers for March to August 2010. Expression of interest for dates after August 2010 would be welcome.
Our preference is for longer placements, minimum term one month.
SALES & CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF The Lifestart Foundation Workshop in Hoi An would welcome sales and customer service volunteers.
Lots of Love from
Karen.
