Yesterday myself and the Canadian explored Hanoi and you will all be pleased with my progress abroad...i went to visit a museum. We went to the Ho Chi Minh Museum and grounds. We did have a mini adventure finding it...god knows where we went but it was a scenic detour, we survived to tell the tale and made a wise decision on the way back to get a cycle tuk tuk thingimajig...Hanoi roads are well different...just a crazy number of bikes which all work in some kind of organised chaos- i think that is the only way to describe it.
We then went for lunch and had spring rolls...yum yum and then wandered back to the hostel where i had a shower and then chilled out waiting for my bus ride. I also had a moment of delight as i managed to make it to the roof top bbq at the hostel, treating myself to 2 burgers before the bus ride.
The sleeper bus wasn't too bad to be honest, quite an experience, very narrow beds but acceptable and i managed a few hours sleep here and there. We did have a mini adventure also on the bus in that a stone hit the window to the side- not sure if some kids chucked it as it was a side window but the whole window shattered, didn't fall in but gave the girl a bit shock...the bus managed to pull in and as tape can fix everything they taped it up both sides.
The bus was relatively a quiet bus ride apart from that- imagine turbulence on a plane constantly... thats how the bus ride was- nothing compared to the roads in Laos which would have been a nightmare over night.
We arrived in Hue to find the place flooded completely- we saw people with water over there knees (the tiny bit i had to wade/swim through was just below my knees), the bus we were meant to get on wasn't supposed to leave till 2pm but luckily we all managed to get on a non sleeper bus about 15minutes later and i have just arrived in Hoi An...off now to treat myself to some retail therapy- well hopefully...we will see. Will try find myself a bikini and maybe a dress but most of all i will try to not get scammed. Off with a portugese couple who also are from the same hostel but i didn't meet till we were waiting for the minibus ride to get the sleeper bus.
Will catch up soon, hoping to leave this place tomorrow evening after getting some clothes made to travel on down to Nha Trang...where the weather is (fingers crossed) more predictable.
