Amongst the iPad saga we had got to Hanoi and it was crazy town!!! We thought Bangkok was madness but Hanoi was something else there were mopeds absolutely everywhere you can't cross the road without watching your back thinking your going to get hit!!! We had to ask if there were many accidents as we were in so much shock. Once we got into our room and Brad made a few calls about his iPad we headed out for some food, we hadn't eaten since lunch the day before. We asked the receptionist where to go for good food, she marked a few places on the map but it didn't really do much good to be honest as everywhere looked the same and it was just so busy so we found a restaurant that had 'steak, pizza' outside, Brad ran to it practically!!! We had a delicious lunch and were sat chilling on this balcony of the restaurant when Brad points down to the street and who is there, our friends Alex and Matt!!! We were speechless! We knew they had been in Hanoi but neither of us knew when the other would be there, it was such a good surprise.
They were meant to be leaving that night to start the next leg of their journey but delayed it by a day so we could spend the day together and the evening.
We headed to look around the prison which was so interesting, I'm such a geek with things like that so I was fascinated with everything. We got to see the cells and how they were treated and lived in that prison. We walked around for a good while exploring. There were so many families cooking in the street, starting up their own little barbecues on little grills. You see everyone wearing masks due to the pollution and smells of all the food, some of the woman would wear a mask, hood up and helmet, I don't know how they could see where they were going!!! It's just unreal what they carry around with them on these bikes, ladders, cement, wires no care for any kind of danger!! We headed back to our hotel about half 4 as we were exhausted from being up so early for our flight, so we had a nap and headed back out for dinner. We went to Gecko a favourite of Matt
and Alex and the food was so yummy. Then they took us to Beer Corner where they had been the night before, they were our guides for the day. It was madness there it was a corner with bars on each one, lots of westerners were there it was so popular. There were bikes crossing over the place with no care. The funniest thing was they set little seats out on the street as it gets so busy but it's illegal so the police do checks every night. As soon as they see any sign of police the owners of the bars run around and take the chairs from the customers with people practically falling on the floor, it was hilarious!!!
We were still pretty tired so headed back to our hotel after having a drink and crashed out straight away!! We needed to be up early again so Brad could go to the airport to pick up his iPad. The airport called at 9am and confirmed they had it! He was the happiest person (and so was I!) he got a taxi to the airport and I stayed behind and sorted out our laundry and met Matt and
Alex while we waited for him. We had another walk around and looked for a supermarket Matt had heard about so they could get a few bits for their bus journey. We were also looking for a dress for Alex birthday, it's her 21st this week but had no luck. We met Brad about half 12 just in time for lunch. He was glad to have the iPad but didn't have the best journey, there was a crash on the bridge so it took a good hour or so more than it should, he said people were overtaking and driving on the wrong side of the road just to get last, I'm glad I got him back safe!!!
We had to be back at our hotel for 5 as he surprised me and booked us both massages! We said our goodbyes to our travelling family and went to the hotel. The massages were amazing!!! I had a hot stone one and was just in heaven, I was falling asleep from the word go, I felt so relaxed! Definitely a good surprise, and one that we needed! We were so relaxed afterwards that we didn't even venture out for dinner,
we ate on the roof too restaurant at our hotel and it was so nice!! We had another early morning as well as were heading out on a boat trip for the weekend by Halong Bay so we were in bed like boring old cronies by about 9.30pm ha!
We have just got back from the boat trip so my next blog I'll tell you all about it!!
Love B&K xxxx
