Day 1: To Tuk-Tuk or not Tuk-Tuk in Bangkok?
Good Morning! Or as they say in The Land of Smiling Faces … “Sawadee!”
I arrived in Bangkok at 1:30 a.m. this morning after a near 18 hour jump from over the Pacific and through the woods to Exotic Thailand we go! I must say in all fairness, it wasn’t really that bad….that plane ride from California to Taipei. I had a whole row to myself and a dose of Tylenol PM. Life was good on the plane while I snoozed my way to Asia.
I got into my hotel at the Ramada early this morning. The hotel clerk was very helpful and he seemed to know who I was as I was walking into the reception area. The moment I got into my room, I ended up dumping my luggage near the door and collapsed into bed. Zzzzzz….
Breakfast was not so bad, the normal faire at any typical restaurant. I sat by the window and just watched life zoom by. My first impressions of Bangkok is: Busy
Busy as taxis zoom by, tuk-tuk drivers loom on sidestreets selling their services to hotel guests, construction workers hammering away, maids and hotel employees walking quickly by to their destinations, families (yes, that’s Dad, Mom and Baby in between) speeding by on their motorcycles to destinations unknown. Life is very busy in Bangkok.
So, my plan of attack today? Originally, I started out with good intentions of walking to the nearby market to browse among the flowers and various vendors. What got me was the heat. The hotel clerks in the lobby warned me about it as I walked out the lobby doors. The heat is no joke… I was fine until I got about half a block away… then it hit me! The humidity is intense. Before I knew it, I was glistening… my hair was a hot mess of curls and all I could think about was a freezer. Ah.. yes, find me a freezer to hide in! Where was the closest meat freezer warehouse?
I ended up buying a few Chinese face crèmes for my Mom before heading back to the hotel. I think I need another day of just relaxing before I head out into the chaos and heat. I’m a wee bit tired for some odd reason.
Tonight I have a spa treatment next door. Two hours of bliss is what the promised.
Till I blog again…
