Hello ladies and gents!
There's not going to be much in this, my very first travel blog entry, because I haven't even left yet. I fly tomorrow evening - at eight of the evening clock, after a journey to Heathrow by National Express (with the song playing in my head).
I'm flying to Bangkok via Dubai, and shall arrive on friday. If I haven't told you yet, or if you've forgotten, here's what I'll be doing over the next thirteen weeks:
I'm signed up for the Thailand Experience with REALGAP. My first four weeks are 'experience' weeks. I'll be meeting up with fellow travellers in Bangkok's Royal Hotel. After a couple of days, we'll be taken north to the town of Singburi, where we'll be based for a week and a half, with various trips planned. If all goes to plan, my third week will be a trek through the jungle. The fourth week is a holiday week! Lounging in the sun on the island of Koh Samet.
The next four weeks are volunteering weeks. I hope to be placed with the Hill Tribes - up in the north of Thailand, near the Burmese border. The company are being a bit lacks, I won't find out if I've got that till I get there. My exact tasks will vary according to what I'm needed for on the day. If I don't get that, my second choice is to go back to Singburi for some primary school teaching. So, more detail on my volunteering tasks when I know myself.
I then have nine days before my next programme, so it's back to the Royal Hotel for a few days, to explore Bangkok properly. Then I'm off to Singapore, staying in a hostel for five days.
Next, I fly to Kuala Lumpur to start the Malysian Zoo Programme. I'll be working with the animals in either the national zoo at KL, or a bit further out in Taiping Zoo. It'll be mostly shovelling out, but still - cool!
Next blog will be when I'm there, whenever I get a chance to actually post something.
See you in June,
Dan x
