... [more]Team,
We spent a few days in Bangkok, enjoying the relative familiarity of their plumbing. Highlights include a day spent touring various mega-temples in Thaliand's equivalent of the Vatican. Everything that can possibly be covered in gold leaf or colored glass mosaics is. Gigantic gold and stone demons, buddhas and royal tombs dot the area every few hundred feet. We walked through these temples for hours, and frankly exited them more than a little overwhelmed by all the Buddhist Iconography and Thai religious/national myths (Rama and Sita were Thai.)
What better way to relax after so much gem encrusted golden stuff than by taking a ferry down Bangkok's river, sipping on a smoothie with about twelve different fruits and vegetables in it, including one called "Dragonfruit"? None that we know of, that's for sure. We took a quick trip on Bangkok's new Skytrain, which was incredibly quick and efficient, then got caught in the heaviest storm Tucker had ever experienced (not Katie) and took an incredibly slow and laborious cab ride back to our Hotel. The cab ride literally took one and a half hours to travel about five miles. At one point we were stuck at a traffic

light which stayed red for ten minutes, only to turn green for less than ten seconds. Long story short, don't take a cab across downtown Bangkok, ever.
Yesterday we took a train out of Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, which lies northwest of Bangkok, somewhat near the Burmese border. The town's claim to fame is that it is the actual site of the famed Bridge Over the River Kwai. It is a delightful place with lots of WWII museums, some of which are incredible with information in three languages, some of which are downright bizarre. The museum we just visited stole the name of a popular WWII memorial museum down the road, and felt like a clearinghouse for all kinds of WWII memorabilia, had quite a few plaster models of WWII leaders, and a hall of gems and Ms. Thailand paintings. We biked around town, took in many sights and foods, and met a native San Franciscan who told us that 49er fans are always welcome. Last night at our guest house we met a French couple worrying about anti-malaria pills, a family of housecats including a tiny kitten that follows us around, a group of Thai children who frolicked around

Tucker and Katie out.
