A coach is driving along a motorway towards Bangkok and a window is randomly smashed throwing shards of glass over two of the passengers. That'll be me and Tom then.
With that coach journey from Surat Thani preceded by a minibus from Railay and followed by a bus to Kanchanaburi it was a long day and night. The bus didn't stop for the window incident, we brushed off the glass at a rest stop and carried on as if nothing had happened.
So after all the beaches we've finally done something a bit different, Kanchanaburi has it's place in history as the location on the Death Railway of the bridge over the River Kwai. Three museums, two cave temples, two war cemeteries isn't a bad cultural haul for three days work, getting round some of them by bicycle.
Our disinterest in a taxi from the bus station secured a good price, with the driver then pulling the age old stunt of trying to drop us at his mates guest house away from where we wanted to go. We're not going to get tricked by that sort of thing while I'm sitting in the back with
a map.
In book news "Out Of Africa" has finally gone, traded in against a Stephen Fry number. Which I've now finished too because it was a good read.
Food and drink are the cheapest we've seen yet in Thailand so we've dining well. Note the picture of Tom with a whole chicken, only the feet were missing. It came with the best ever fries, a large Chang and change from the equivalent of ₤3. This sort of thing makes Tom very happy.
Erm......it's not me that needs to be told

Paul, it's late on a school night and I should be in bed but I find myself desparately scanning your pictures for a glimpse of Tom's footless chicken, chip and beer bargain all to no avail. How's a chap meant to sleep when taunted so mercilessly by the author. Please rectify this oversight next time and show us the food that made Tom happy.
P.S. I've never read a blog before so I've no real comparison but all the same I reckon this one ranks as a goodun. Keep up the good work Small.
Hope the picture doesn't disappoint, covers the chicken well but you'll still have to imagine the beer and stack of chips. Tom wouldn't pose long for photos, had a big task ahead of him.
Hey Paul,
dam.. not only jealous that you guys are out there living it up, you have to tempt us with one hell of a chicken and beats KFC anyday. I bet Tom didn't last too long with a knife and fork.
Love the blog entries, great photos.... keep up the good work!!
