This was our plane!
Hello! I guess I haven't written for 2 days now. The time has really "flown" by- ha, ha 😊 I'm happy to report that our flights were uneventful and painless. Our planes were on time, we did not lose any luggage (but I can not say the same for our travelling companions), we did not have to wait in long security lines, and immigration was no big deal. We had wonderful seats on Thai Airways- as wonderful as a seat that you will sit in for 16 hours can be. Delaney, guess what color the seats on the planes were? Purple and pink. The stewardesses were beautifully dressed in long, straight silk dresses and the stewards were in suits. Our plan was to get on the plane and sleep but we soon realized that we had too much to do! There were 3 meal services and our own video screen with movies, TV, and games at our fingertips. We also had a flight tracker to see where we were on the digital map of the world. I had thought we were flying east, but our flight plan took us north over the North Pole (or at least close to it). We

crossed Canada, Newfoundland/Labrador, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Pakistan, India, the Bay of Bengal, and Myanmar, before landing in Thailand. I believe we travelled 14,733 kilometers.

Another neat thing on the plane was the live video from the camera at the nose of the plane. At first all we saw was the runway. As we took off we could see the plane leaving the ground and the ground moving dizzily fast below us. Then as we rose higher into the air the ground seemed to slow down and we had a great view of the land below us. It's a fun idea, in concept, until you rise higher than the clouds. Then you see nothing but white. So, after the first 15 minutes of our flight the video camera was pretty much useless, but it was still a cool idea. I checked it every once and awhile during the flight, but never saw anything interesting.

We had some great food on the flight. There were 3 meals and I made sure I wasn't sleeping for any of them. Our first course was chicken with black bean sauce or pork and eggplant. The second meal was chicken in red curry

sauce and for the 3rd meal we had stir fried noodles with pork. Of course there were fruit, rolls, cake, wine, and whatever else we wanted.

We met up with Amit, Selina and the rest of our group at the airport and we quickly grew to 11 members. We immediately loaded up the 2 luxury passenger vans and drove to Hua Hin. I was not looking forward to another 3 hours in a van seat after being on a plane for 16 hours, but we just wanted to get to our final destination. We did make a couple rest stops on the way. I was surprised to see bottles of Nestle water for 5 baut- that's about 15 cents. I guess it's only crazy Americans who pay $1 or more for a bottle of water. Unfortunately, with all that cheap water we were forced to use the facilities at the 7-11 before travelling on. Yes, it was a squatty potty. If you don't know what it is- look it up!

We arrived at the Sheraton Hau Hin about 8:00 pm and it was dark. But, from what we could see, the place was beautiful! We were certainly relieved

Here's a fuzzy picture of Bangkok from the van on the way to Hua Hin. Again, we were driving very fast and the haze makes it hard to see (or maybe it was the dirty window). The city is huge!
to be at our destination. More about the hotel later...
