We arrived in Phuket at around 9am after a brilliant flight. Our hostel in Phuket town was really nice. We are 6 hours ahead in Thailand and we'd had no sleep but we wanted to stay awake so we didn't get jet lag so we went to Phuket's big shopping mal, 'Central Festival'. It was really good, I got some cheap glasses. The following day we went to Patong beach. On the journey we saw lots of places that were devestated by the tsunami. People are still living in make-shift homes around the affected area. Patong market was good, selling 'kwality' items, and the Thai men were really funny, they kept saying things like
alright geeza! - luvvly jubbley
.
Also, there were corn on the cob stalls!(Kate-I took a photo of one just for you!!). Other than that, Patong is not a nice place at all- it's full of westerners (mostly old men with young Thai women) and really packed. In the evening we went Phuket night market-the food was great!
The following day we went to Karon and Kata beach. Kata beach is really nice but again, too many westerners. Overall we weren't impressed by Phuket-there are just
too many tourists and it's become tacky because of it, so we decided to leave. We hopped on a bus making a 14 hour overnight trip to Bangkok....
Phuket Bus StationHot, chaotic and everybody trying to sell you the 'Best bus to Bangkok'.
