Dear all, I am feeling a bit sorry for myself today! I have a bad ear infection caused by diving. I have been to the doctors and he has given me antibiotics, painkillers and ear drops but he said that its quite a bad infection and that its going to take a while to clear. So no diving for a week, maybe two. Also I am deaf in the bad ear and my balance is now non existent and I keep falling over!! So we have both now succumbed to the travellers affliction - or as, i once read it described in Grazia ‘the travellers diet.’ Seriously, there was an article about women visiting exotic locations, and deliberately eating ‘risky foods’ in the hope that they would lose a few pounds for the holiday snaps. There’s been a partial death in the family. Well if not a death, a long term debilitating illness at least. Whilst we love the simpleness (and cheapness) of our current island residence, it doesn’t necessarily offer all the security features of the concrete bungalows on the resorts. Bye bye India, Hello Thailand...within 24 hours i'd said goodbye to the slums of Delhi and hello to a tropical island paradise! Been here 6 days now & it still hasn't properly sunk in. Classic white sandy beach, palm trees, crystal clear water all 30 seconds from my bedroom door...everyone more tanned than me who still stands out like a white beacon of scottish flesh! As of today I am now an Advanced Open Water Diver, which qualifies me to dive to 30m. Crazy days! The diving itself is incredible, I had high expectations but it has far surpassed them. So yesterday was the first real test of the travel sickness medication. I’ve suffered from motion sickness for as long as I can remember. car journeys, rail, rollercoasters, boats - especially boats always make me violently sick. Bearing in mind the coming year, by it’s very nature will involve quite a lot of, well, traveling, especially on unsurfaced roads and small boats, I went to see my GP, who was incredibly sympathetic and gave me these little pills that you stick under your gum 15 minutes before travelling, and some advice about nibbling ginger biscuits. hello everybody, i'm still alive. it is really difficult here in ko tao to come and write. have time to read some and write people i should be meeting soon and coordinate. in ko tao its grat, have a bungalow for me, an a hill with direct viwe to the sea, and beach, sunset, everything. just for 2 o 3 more euros, have rented a scooter, or motorcycle if you can call it like that amd its great, im flexible, go to wherever beach i want to. weather is is absolutely great, sunny everyday, some wind so it is not so [View Full Entry]

Dear all, It was Full Moon in Thailand this week..which means big celebrations. Dan and I stayed on Koh Tao but went to the beach on full moon night. It was a very lucky night as we saw two shooting stars! Dan has finished work and is having a week off before he teaches another course. When he finishes that course we are heading to the islands on the other side of Thailand. Tomorrow we are planning on going diving and I am hoping to see some big fish!! Koh Toa the Diving Capital of Thailand Day 76 Up early for another two hour dive lecture that we successfully completed without a vommit or falling asleep and we set about gearing ourselves up for our first scuba dive, in the 8 foot deep pool. With a couple hours before our group was due in the pool, we headed to Shark Bay, after a little steeper climb then expected we arrived at a beautiful and nearly deserted bay for a relaxing couple hours on the beach. Dear all, The newest Open Water Diver in the world is Jack!! He qualified this morning after his last two dives. The first dive was a bit stressful as the water was very rough and their were loads of divers in the water. The second dive was very relaxing and he didnt want to leave the water. Jack has the diving bug!!!! Not bad for someone who is scared of fish!!
