Thought it was time for another Blog Entry. The main reason I haven't updated it sooner is because nothing much has happened since the last one. Other than having done another 100 dives.
In the last six weeks, I have probably spent 3,5 weeks on the boat and the rest on land. Once I was on the boat for 13 nights in a row diving on average five dives per day. Two in the morning, two in the afternoon and 1 night dive. I have also started my divemaster training and although it was a slow start (mainly because I was on the boat diving so often) I have almost finished it now. Another week or so to go.
About four weeks ago I started guiding dives, which is pretty much the only fun thing to do in the diving industry (in MY opinion). Everything else includes too much time in the class room or pool and too little diving. I guess it's good that not everyone likes the same :)
Experienced the first "real" problem under water a couple of weeks ago - I was diving in a group of 8 around 27 meters deep on a
dive site called Kingcruiser - it's an old car and passenger ferry that sunk some years ago. Everything was good until I saw one of the divers trying to get people's attention. I thought he'd seen something exciting like a whale shark or a manta ray so I started swimming towards him. When I saw him look at his pressure gauge I realised that it wasn't a big fish but a problem with his air. His regulator hose had burst and air under high pressure escaped. All the training I've had obviously worked - I didn't think (I actually can't remember all of it in detail) but I reached him, got him on my alternate airsource and relaxed and we started swimming towards the surface. Overall a pretty good experience and good to know that the training works :)
Had an eye infection in both eyes this week so today was the first day diving again. Going diving again tomorrow including a dive site called Shark Point - hopefully we'll see some sharks - they're vegetarian apparently :)
Andrew came to Phuket for a quick holiday, which was pretty good. He entertained himself for quite a few days
when I was diving but we managed to go on a fishing trip and have a couple of beers, which was good.
Next week I'll be going on a little holiday :) I fly to Bangkok on Thursday the 16th, I'll stay there for a couple of days, then to North East Thailand by train/bus over a few days having a look around. Into Laos for 5 days or so and to do a visa run. From Laos I'll fly to Kuala Lumpur where I'll stay for a few nights before flying back to Phuket on the 29th.
Another update will follow after I return from my little trip.
I have attached some photos and a video - nothing exciting but it'll give you an idea of what it's like here.
Cheers
ps. I've uploaded some pictures - nothing much to show but it'll give you an idea of what it's like here. I was going to upload a video as well but it's taking too long. Maybe another time :)
