This'll be my first update on my travel blog since arriving in Phuket and I have decided to keep it short. Not because there isn't anything to write about, but mainly because I can't add any pictures.
I love travelling, but I don't enjoy the actual air travel much - especially when it involves long cheap flights, long stopovers, long legs and no legroom. So leaving Papamoa (thanks for the ride David) around 1am Friday morning, we finally made it through Tauranga by 2am and arrived at the airport around 4am (I think). My flight left at 5.50am so there was plenty of time to kill listening to my tunes on my new Ipod.
The flight left on-time and I arrived in Sydney. Another 6,5hrs wait ahead of me. Sydney airport is a pretty average airport to hang around in for that long. Luckily I had good tunes to listen to on my new Ipod.
Ten hours later on a Jetstar flight (no entertainment, no free booze, no free food - just a seat) I landed in Phuket - worthwhile the long flights. Immigration took another 30 minutes but luckily I had good tunes to listen to.
Finally through immigration I went to collect my backpack to find it wasn't there. Four days later.... still no news about my backpack.....
at least I've got an Ipod.
I'm staying in Patong which is the busiest part of Phuket Island and described by many as seedy. But it really isn't that bad - or is it just me?? Anyway...... watched the All Blacks play in a bar on the main strip - next to me sat a nice South African couple - not sure why but they seemed very happy.
Have eaten in a few places where only local Thai people go - haven't had any Delhi Belly symptoms yet.
Working on a tan and going on an overnight diving trip on Wednesday where I'll be doing seven dives.
Once I get my backpack back, I'll start including pictures in my blog and I'll stop writing so much.
Cheers
Hielke
ps. How's work??

Hey broer(tje),
Liefs Inge
Lucky for that IPOD! hehe.
