We left the hotel at 5.20am as we had a lift booked to the airport on the other side of the lake at 5.40. The night before we had paid our bills because we knew we were checking out really early. When we tried to leave though the guy on reception who Rosara woke up must have been grumpy and tried to charge us again, and also tried to charge us for laundry we never had. I wish we did have laundry because my socks were starting to pong and it would of saved this argument. After 15mins of arguing we finally cleared the hotel but were never going to make our lift now so we had to flag a taxi down and rush to the place. Obviously the lift never left on time and we waited for 20mins in the van before we set off to the airport. We got to the airport an hour later, 2hours before our flight and checked in hassle free. The flight was with Air Aisa the cheap Ryanair type but it was fine and we landed in Bangkok at 11am. Again it was roasting here and the massive immigration queues were hell just like
last time. We cleared them and got the train into Bangkok centre and onto the main train station where we were to buy our tickets to Samui. We planned on taking the 18.30pm train which would of been a 4hour wait but there were no beds left and we had to book the 5pm which meant less of a wait.
We decided to play Gin Rummy to kill time and a Thai bloke was watching us so we invited him to play. We thought he wouldnt even know what we were playing but he was either a quick learner or Thailands Gin Rummy champion as he beat us every single game before getting up and walking off the smug twat!
Before getting on our train we thought we would get some food which was some of the cheapest we had seen but also meant we rushed again, running through the station with chicken and rice to our 5pm train... Obviously the train didnt even leave until 5.20pm.
Our train was a second class sleeper which meant it was seats in daylight then the conductor would come round and change the seats into beds when it went dark.
They were comfier than the sleeper buses in Vietnam and we managed some sleep before my alarm went off at 4am the next morning which meant we were nearly at Surat Thani. We arrived in Surat Thani 24hours after leaving Hanoi and very tired. We had to wait until 7am for our bus to the pier and had a coffee to try and wake us up. The bus left at 7.30am and at the dock we had to wait until 10am for the ferry. Finally we could see the sea and the islands of Thailand made the wait worthwhile. The ferry crossed us to Samui in just over 40mins and and here we jumped on the back of a pick up truck and jumped back off at Mae Nam. We had a vague idea where our hotel was and we walked up following signs through the jungle in 35degrees with our backpacks on wondering why we put ourselves through this. 31 hours after leaving Hanoi we arrived at Samui Native Resort knowing why we put ourselves through this...
