Background: A unified Thai kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict. Thailand is currently facing armed violence in its three Muslim-majority southernmost provinces.

Well...where to start... I got the ferry to Ko Phi Phi with steffi and stephan and ended up in the rock backpackers cos I wanted to meet randoms. It was then I checked facebook and saw becki haines was in phi phi and so hooked up with her and her mate catherine which was a bit of a bonus. At first i fell in love with the dorms for all of its bohemian shabbiness and inadequacies but this was a brief love affair much like one would have with pete doherty. We all went out that night to the beach and [View Full Entry]

Our last blog finished en-route to Ko Phi Phi (location of the Hollywood blockbuster 'The Beach' and an area heavily affected by the Tsunami). I mention these things again as they are both conversely the biggest contributors to the islands DNA. Both are commodities that can be sold and both draw tourists to the island in their thousands. Sidenote- the journey from Railey was only 50 mins or so but it was a good opportunity for me and Bazman to get a lick of sun, with our sunglasses on think of Duran Duran's 'Rio'. Apart from the supermodels but i'm sure [View Full Entry]

Story Time! There once were two man-boys who travelled all night on a train from Bangkok to a small town names Pai. They arrived weary in this mountain town from all of there journeys, but when they searched for a place to rest there tired feet there was no room in the Inn! They wandered the streets searching for a room until they stumbled upon a kindly Inn keeper who said that he had a barn they could sleep in (a.k.a. a big room he hadn't cleaned in a month). This Inn's name was Edible Jazz and miraculously this barn [View Full Entry]

I rescued a girl from the sea today, and saved her life I would venture to say. I normally lead off from where I left off the day before, but I feel this story is worthy of leading this post. A bit of back story before I get started; just incase you don’t know me all that well. I swim like a goddamn maniac. Ever since I was young I spent my life in the pool, I did swim team, and life guarded from the age of sixteen to twenty two. (Sub-back story: Not to sound like I am stereotyping, but [View Full Entry]

Speed boat to Phuket main

Saai and I spent two nights in Trang with her family. Her family were great hosts, and her mom is an excellent cook. There was a continuous flow of seafood coming from the kitchen…crab, mussels, fish, and prawns. We ate up. But it was soon time to leave… On Thursday (October 15, 2009), Saai’s mom and step-father dropped us off at the pier in Krabi to take a 1 ½ hour ferry to Phi Phi (departures at 10, 1:30, and 3 daily). If you’re heading this way, you need to make sure you get to the correct pier. I believe it’s [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Phuket, Thailand on October 16th at night via Malaysia Airlines. With a bit of trouble for Trisha at customs (still no idea why?), a nice Thai man picked us up to take us to our hotel, Sino House, in Phuket Town. We wanted an easy stop over for a night before jumping off to another paradise. What we found was wonderful hospitality, comfort, cleanliness, free wifi, breakfast buffet included and $10 massages in the upscale spa at our place so we stayed for two. (For 1200 baht aka $40, it was a no brainer) Phuket Town was a [View Full Entry]
