Andy says: Apologies for the delay in posting another blog but our time since Kanchanaburi has been mainly taken up with travelling, snorkelling and drinking! We went to Hua Hin from Kanchanaburi after our train was delayed by 4 hours (guess that's typical over here!). It is a pretty nice beach town but not too much to do there apart from visit Monkey Mountain which, unsurprisingly, is full of wild monkeys. I found the whole thing pretty unnerving since they looked a little bit rabid and the males seemed hell bent on raping everything in sight (I did learn some new techniques though...). From Hua Hin we travelled to Koh Tao which was the part of the trip I'd been waiting for. A paradise island with amazing beaches and beautiful weather if you ignored the afternoon downpour. We treated ourselves to a beach bungalow and spent five nights in total passing the time chilling out, snorkelling and driving our off-road (or in Dan's case, on-road, off-road, lying down in the road) mopeds. One night after a few drinks we hatched a crazy plan to drive up to a viewpoint over Mango Bay in the pitch black. Was a little scary
being at the back of our party of two driving up dirt tracks through the jungle and seeing literally nothing in my rear view mirrors. Made a few pals on the island too - Cindy the ladyboy, Vinnie the stray dog we managed to train over the 5 days, Jo Jo the lonely owner of a random tiki bar which we decided to take over and try and get him some custom one night! It was a good time and I was sad to leave. The only downside was that I managed to slice my foot on some coral and now, thanks to Dan's consistent requests for me to do stuff to it (put alcohol gel, his fingers, whatever's around in it) is now infected and pretty painful. We may have to perform a hotel room amputation. Anyways, hope you're all well - will let Dan take over from here.
Dan says: Right so aside from Andy's cut up foot which he will probably lose due to my constant tampering this trip has been amazing and an eye opener! If you ever travel from Koh Tao to Koh Phi Phi by nightboat ONLY do it if you have
to! Those things are like slave ships, long matresses on either side with only a body width of space to sleep on! I got Andy's elbow in the face at one point then some random Spanish dude kicked me! Andy being of average height unlike me got stepped on a few times aswell! Also Thai people have no concept of talking queitly and decide to shout at around 4 in the morning for no reason other than they didn't want to sleep anymore! Anyway arrived in Koh Phi Phi with serious sleep deprivation and this place was just like 'The Beach' not really ironic as that's where it was filmed! Anyway Koh Phi Phi is great, absolutely hammering it down right now but I'm still going swimming! I think this trip has shown me that my actual home is the water...just ask Andy! I'm like a crocodile in there minus the tail, the scales, the teeth and pretty much everything thats crocodilian! There's no mopeds or cars in Koh Phi Phi so i guess that extends my lifespan for another week until Hanoi where chances are I'll probably get hit by a moped instead! Anyway if it stops raining we
are going on some crazy snorkelling, kayaking adventure around the whole island and even get to chill on Maya Beach...look that one up I think you will feel rather jealous whilst reading this from either your desk or house in sunny old England! Anyway that's me done for now! The swimming pool is calling and the rain has subsided...WOOO. Also I just need to add for all you Arsenal fans out there, what a performance from Spurs. Arsenal you let a RIGHT BACK score such a goal against you...you should be ashamed, good way to mark 15 years in charge though for good old Arsene!
Bye for now!
