Photo 1Jump rope is way cooler when it's on FIRE.
For the last week or so I've been back in Thailand, this time to the gorgeous Southern islands. I stayed on the island of Ko Phangan, which is famous for it's monthly Full Moon Party. Thousands of backpackers from all over the world come here to dance, wear glow paint, and drink cocktails so potent they're made in buckets. The days leading up the Full Moon were just as fun, and the actual event was packed beyond belief. There were fire dancers, enormous sound systems, and a perfect tropical backdrop for youthful celebrations of life. It was amazing, and like Vang Vieng in Laos, it's a real shame we don't have this kind of fun at home.
When I wasn't twirling glowsticks under blacklights, I was cruising the island on a rented motorbike. It's the perfect way to find undiscovered beaches, meet fellow travelers in need of a lift, and get really, really sunburned. Everywhere the ocean was bathwater warm, and tiny crabs scuttled underfoot. The sand was white, the sun was hot, and all you really need in a place like this is to lay in a hammock, take a nap, and and maybe drink something with an umbrella
in it.
Arnthor has gone is own way, and I'm back in Bangkok getting ready to travel to China for the eclipse. I really feel like I've been given a fantastic gift, and am drinking in every joyful moment. I already feel like I've been on the road for a long time, and it's only been about 1/3 of my travel time. I can't remember another day when I felt so eager for tomorrow, and so amazed at what I'm finding.
There have been some setbacks as well, but they have failed to cast a shadow on my time here. I am still in complete gratitude to those helping me on my adventures, past present and future. Cynthia, you're my saving grace.
So far, school has never hindered my ability to enjoy my travels. In fact, it's been kind of fun, and I think I'll be able to put my skills to use helping people who have done so much for me already.
As usual, here are some pictures which are only a tiny peek at what has really been going on here. Enjoy.

Photo 4Me, covered in glow paintings from head to toe, grooving to the beats between bucket drinks.
Photo 5Just the kind of beaches you'd expect in the most picturesque part of the world.
Photo 7Anyone for a barefoot stroll?
Photo 8The resort we stayed at had an amazing view.
Photo 9Motorbikes buzz through the streets; riding one is really the best way to get around a small island.

I think I'm going to have to visit some part of Asia within my lifetime. Mom just got back from Korea, where she raced with Dragonboaters from all over the world. She exchanged her jerseys for Russian, German, Chinese and Japanese Jerseys. She brought back some really nifty souvenirs too!
I want so badly to experience the stunning architecture, shiny optimism in their Engrish, and multitudesof other cultural differences first hand.
Imma jealous! :)
