Hi all, AK here.
Yesterday we spent the day travelling across the country. We took a two hour ferry ride to the mainland and then a bus across the strip and another ferry to where we are now - Ko Phangnan. Here we met up with a bunch of othe med students who are travelling - Kelly, Jess, Jimmy, Susan, Danielle, Renee and Nik. It was great to see everyone and we had a big reunion breakfast and are heading to the beach shortly to stretch out and (likely) burn some more.
We are staying at a really nice resort with bungalows. No air conditioning but we have a very strong fan that seems to be doing the trick. Had a great sleep last night after a big meal (where Colin, Mark and I were brave enough to try Thai food again). Krystle is still on a diet of french fries and pizza after getting sick last week.
Tonight is the Full Moon Party which happens (obviously) every full moon. Approximately 25,000 travellers descend on this one beach to dance, drink and enjoy the beach. The party starts tonight and goes until the sun rises. Though the after parties are scheduled for beginning at 11 am (when I am sure we will all be back in bed). The parties started by a bunch of travellers back in the 80s. The popular drink is the "bucket" which just means they literally give you a sand bucket, a bottle of hard liquor and your mix. Oh, and of course, a straw. Should be... interesting. Oh yes, and apparently everyone gets painted with their country's flag. We'll take lots of pictures and post about it tomorrow.
Not much to report about our last few days in Ko Phi Phi. Mark had a great day scuba diving while Krystle, Colin and I walked around town and generally kept busy. It was too rainy to go down to the beach. We had one giant meal of seafood down by the pier that was paricularly memorable. COlin and Mark got to choose our fish so they selected a very large (and yummy) sea bass. On top of that we shared deep fried crab balls, shrimp, full crabs, bbq squid, spring rolls, and lots of rice and vegetables. Delicious and definitely worth the $10 canadian each that we spent on it.
Anyhow, this internet cafe is a bit more pricy than we like so I will leave it here. Thanks everyone for leaving lots of comments, we have lots of fun reading them.
