OK Here are the first batch of photo's!!! I think we are going to the Island of Koh Toa tomorrow. Yesterday we went to the ocean and did some swimming . The water was so warm it was almost hot!! The highlight of the trip!! We were at Hat Thong Wua Leans, which was really creepy actually. Kind of an empty, depressing town, ready for tourists, of which we were the only ones! Shannon and I were walking along the beach and then some dog started following us and taunting us. Kind freaked us out since we both declined the rabies shot!! the comedy of errors continued as we needed to catch a bus home and nobody in the ghost town spoke english, but we managed to figure out that a bus could take us back ... read more

Hello All, Here we are a couple days in and it's been fun. 20 hours on the plane and finally landed in Bangkok. Bangkok was cool, got in around 12:30 am and then headed out to a bar. Ended up ordering a couple beers and some curry at some outdoor bar in the middle of some festival. I Soon discovered that it wasn't my pasty white skin the boys we noticing but that we were at a gay bar in the middle of gay pride week! Sweet. Those boys make a mean Curry! Bangkok was too crazy so we took a train yesterday form Bangkok to Chumphon. There were no first and second class tickets left so we sat in 3rd class. 192 baht each($6CDN !) I have no idea how that train stayed on the ... read more

Well we have been back in Thailand for 6 days now. We spent 4 nights in bangkok. Got our breath, brains, etc. back after 36 hours of straight travel from India to Bangkok. It was a lot of waiting for flights.. we made it and that is all that needs to be said. Christine has visited the Canadian Embassy and will get her new passport on the 5th of april (her old passport was full). We have started heading down to the west coast of Thailand.. We stopped in Phetchaburi for a couple of nights, and we are in Chumphon waiting for a bus. Phetchaburi was beautiful and we lucked out with the weather.. it was over cast and very windy, which is really nice if the temperature is 35C plus, which it is over here. ... read more

A deserted breakfast room (other than two Germans, who departed soon after we arrived). Nerve jerking strong coffee with some good eggs and toast. Spent a nervous half our in reception waiting for our transfer to the ferry jetty. It arrived just as I was asking the receptionist to phone the ferry company. We jumped aboard a pick up and in scorching weather drove what seemed far more than the anticipated 10km to the ferry port. With many other backpackers we strolled with heavy backpacks out on the beautiful but fragile wooden pier to the modern catamaran for our ferry crossing to Ko Tao. It was quite luxurious on board. Surprisingly for such a modest mannered country, a violent movie was being shown with some relatively explicit sex scenes. One and a half hours later we ... read more

We spend a couple of days in Bangkok sorting ourselves out. We are pleased that our hostel is staffed by ladyboys for the authentic Thai experience, though Emma is a bit annoyed they have better figures than her. It takes the good part of a day for Paul to collect the kiteboard equipment, that Emma's mum kindly shipped to Bangkok airport. A seemingly complex affair until a strategically placed wad of baht miraculously speeds things up (and that was just Jean, let alone Thai Customs). We are now set up on the Thung Wae Lung beach North of Chumpon in the Gulf of Thailand. A great kiteboarding spot apart from - as is always the case in our kiteboarding expeditions - no frikkin wind. There are worse places to hang around. A typical day involves: a ... read more

Hello everyone, Well we made it safely through China and arrived in Bangkok on Saturday night. A very nice start to the proceedings was our chauffeur driven pick up from the airport to the Millenium Hilton Bangkok. We arrived there at around 7pm and the giggling began then. I can safely stay that we have never stayed in a hotel anywhere near this standard before. It was superb. The people for a start were amazing, I think we saw more smiles within 10 minutes that we saw the whole time we were in HK. Our room on the 23rd floor was beautiful with a wall width window giving us a 180° view of the river. To put it into perspective, as Sam said, it made Cowley Manor look like Greasy Joe's! Once we had calmed down ... read more

Sawadiika! This will be VERY short, since the bus to take us to the ferry is coming in 10 minutes. We've travelled by bus from Bangkok to Champhon in the past 5 days. Stopping a night or two in the cities we go through. People are wonderful, travelling is very easy by bus. We're heading to Ko Tao today and Island hopping over the next week or so. The weather is fantastic, I got a burn two days ago and it still hurts... and YES I put sunscreen on. My darn fair skin! I guess from the constant sweating, the sun screen comes off not too long after you put it on. I have to reapply every hour:) Thinking of all of you in Canada while we're on the beach:) Gotta go! Post soon with pictures! ... read more
