Short one
So we got back to Bangkok to go to Chang Mai, the biggest city in the North. After having purchased our tickets at the bus station in Bangkok we had some time to kill, and so decided to head in to the centre - I journey that cost us 100 baht (about 150p). We did our thing in the centre then tried to head back out to the bus terminal. The first taxi driver wanted 400 baht. We said no straight away, refusing to pay 4x the original fair. He turned away in disgust as did we (with what we consisdered good reason). We got an altogether different response from the next guy. He simply stuck his two fingers up at us. I thought he was joking and so laughed at him. It was then I realised he was not. He maintained this posture for a while longer, so I called him a bastard and walked away. As we went to another taxi driver he came running up with his fingers still vertical. I was livid. "Fuck off you fucking twat" (I'm highly imaginative when it comes to verbal abuse). That guy really pissed me off, a feeling that was replicated with another taxi driver in Bangkok but I can't quite remember why (what an anticlimax). It's a shame because most of the Thais I have met have been very friendly. As the saying goes 'there's always one nob in the basket of eggs'.
Needless to say we got to Chang Mai. Not a bad place but very hard to get a room where we wanted to. Even though we got their at 4 in the morning (and we were first there) I had to push my way through a throng of travellers in order to attain a bed. What was odd is I met a guy who I had got on really well with a week previously but left him without getting any contact details.
I saw one of the best fake rolexes today - the guy selling it was hurt by my response. It said 'Tackymetre' on the outside of it (where the minute hands are). Bloody hell I thought this ones through the roof.
Its odd meeting people when you travel. People are much more open and forthcoming about themselves, revealing almost intimate details surrounding their life back home (where ever that may be). One guy talkes about relationship problems (I only wanted to talk about the current state of national affairs- nothing heavy like this stuff).
My next one will be more interesting. Honest.
