Chiang Mai (OH MY BUDDHA!!)
Published: September 6th 2012Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang MaiHey Everyone!! Here's our next installment, enjoy :) After a fun 5 days in Bangkok we made our way to the train station to catch our sleeper train to Chiang Mai. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice our 2nd class sleeper seats were. The journey took 16 hours and as our seats were right beside the door out of the carriage to the next carriage where the toilet was situated we did not get much sleep as it was very loud when it was opening and closing! But we watched some movies on our tablet and took a trip up to the food car which looked like an Eddie Rockets (except they only served rice and noodles) plus the music in there was like a rave lol very random! When we finally arrived in Chiang ... read more
Northern Thailand... Me love you long time!
Published: September 17th 2012Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang MaiWe really enjoyed Chiang Mai, it is a small city in the mountains of northern Thailand, with a strong back-packer vibe. Everyone we met was so friendly even just people on the street who stopped to chat or recommend a market or place to visit. On our arrival we explored the old city during the day and in the evening we did a Thai cookery course. First we went to the market to learn about the ingredients, then learnt to cook Pad Thai, some curry pastes' and then the curry itself. The course chef was very funny with his use of English and phrases he had learnt, which made the whole evening more entertaining. For desert we made banana in coconut milk and mango sticky rice, which were delicious. At the end we got a recipe book ... read more
Day 60 - 78: Chiang Mai & Pai
Published: August 30th 2012Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang MaiAfter having spent the last few days touring around the historical and archaeological parts of Thailand we ventured to the North where we had heard Chang Mai had many thrills and adventures on offer. We spent our first night drinking Sangsom (Thai Rum) and dancing to some great ska and reggae cover bands but paid the price the next day when we were all feeling rather special. However, we needed a day of rest to plan our days ahead which were to include ziplining through jungles, helping care for elephants and sight-seeing through the old Northern Kingdom. Our first day of adventure began by travelling deep into the mountainous northern jungle. On arrival we were greeted by our guides and then prepared for our forthcoming flight over the trees, villages and waterfalls. We flew across ziplines ... read more

Chiang mai. Im going to upload the photos tomorrow, so for now it's just the text. I had the best nights sleep last night and so far I still have the room to myself which is nice! I woke early, had my complimentary breakfast; it was plentiful, a mix of Thai and western food. I was collected at about 08.45 and joined a group of 10 others for todays tour. We were of mixed nationality, French, Italian, Spanish, phillipino & Indian. Thomas, from India and rehana from the phillipines are good friends and both live & work in Dubai we 1st stopped at an orchid farm, there were so many types of orchid being grown here, a true gardeners paradise. We then we went to the elephant camp where we rode elephants through the jungle for ... read more

I cannot tell you how many times I have tried to write this. The computer here kept crashing and it won't let me upload photos from my iPod so I'll try at the next hostel. I've managed to upload the ones from my camera though. Yesterday was my last day at deejai backpacker. I left early morning and headed to the zoo. It's on the outskirts of the city and cost only 40baht to get there by songethaw. The zoo issuer within large grounds and the animals are in large open enclosures. I saw everything from elephant to giant panda. One thing that did surprise me was the lack of foreign tourists, the majority were Thai. Plus on the shuttle bus that takes you round the park, the commentary was in Thai. In the evening, after ... read more
Chiang mai. I had the best sleep last night. My two roomies are from Argentina. In their 20's. Really nice girls. Sophia and lupi. I had a wander to the night market last night, which was really good and I had cheese rostis and salad for tea from one of the stalls and a dragon fruit smoothie. My plan ís to go to the zoo today; I had planned to go to the night safari last night but i got talking to lupi and missed the entrance time! Never mind. Its my last night at Deejai before moving onto the Eco resort and so I'm now looking forward to a swim in the pool! Ive got a few more bites but no where near as many as I thought I would, given the amount of them ... read more

Chiang Mai and a Landslide
Published: September 24th 2012Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang Mai » Doi SuthepI left Luang Prabang for Chiang Mai at 6pm after my cooking class. The bus was only supposed to take 20 hours which was an improvement from my 30 hr Hanoi bus trip. When I got on the bus I was not impressed as it was more a minibus than the nice sleeping bus I had my Hanoi trip on. But I did have a whole bench to myself which allowed me to sleep with my legs twisted up against the window. This bus made an adequate amount of bathroom and food breaks which I appreciated. I slept most of the night, but around 4:30am the bus stopped and everyone clamoring out of the bus for what I assumed was a rest stop woke me up. I went back to sleep for about half an hour, ... read more
