The 26th brought good byes to our new German friends. We exchanged contact information, and we will for sure be visiting when we hit Germany next. They live in Munich and said we could stay with Melonie. We didn't too much besides eat and pack. My luggage of course is already full, and Zach packed like he was going to be gone for years. Time for a second suitcase!
My thoughts on Pai:
*Very busy but the Aussie who ran our guesthouse said it has died down a lot. Before, people had to sleep in tents at 1000 baht a night in the school because there was no accommodations.
*There actually isn't that much to do besides tool around in a motorbike or shop the night market. We ate a lot, read a lot, slept a lot. The bands at night though are a must.
*Getting a motorbike is next to impossible and you have to wait at AYA in the queue to get one. They are super cheap though. I paid 140 baht a day plus 40 baht for insurance plus 200 baht for two helmets. It was less than $30 for 5 days. You could
even go cheaper if you don't get the insurance (glad I did since I crashed into a bush) and didn't use helmets (stupid).
*The nights in Pai are the best. This for me was the true Pai, sitting in some small bar listening to music and drinking Leos.
*Three days would have been enough for me.
Back on the bus to hell on the 27th. I scored prime seats in the front row of the minibus (I get car sick). Lucky for me because the seats in the back were covered in vomit. Someone didn't make it! They came and cleaned it up, but the people in the back still had to think about what they were sitting on. This ride was 10x worse than the last. Every turn caused the tires to squeal. He would get a running start and we would launch around the corners. At first, I laughed at Zach when he said we were going to die, then I decided he was probably right. I did get some great pictures and video though. The view is outstanding. We made it to Chiang Mai in like 2 1/2 hours. It usually takes 3 to
3 1/2 in the minibus. We got taken to Tha Pae gate (included in the 150 baht ride). We got into a tuktuk and booked it to our guesthouse CM Blue House.
Oh, it is so nice to be back in CM. This is probably my second favorite place in Thailand (Koh Lanta being first). Our room wasn't quite ready so we had time to book a few excursions. We settled on a one day trek on the 29th and my cooking class on the 2nd. I wanted to do zip lining, but with New Years and everything, I don't think it will happen.
We got some Leos, then headed to the food market at the southern gate. I found Mrs Pa's fruit shake stand (look her up; she is famous) and drank some world class shakes for 20 baht (60 cents!!). Zach got curry, I some gravy soup (ohhhh, not good, not good), and we bought some donuts for breakfast. This food market is the best I think. We ate for less than 200 baht total and got a ton of food. Came back and I promptly zonked out.
