So i'm back in chiang mai after a week of hard labor and mind blowing experiences with the elephants. everyday was scheduled as such 7am breakfast 7:30 poop scoop.. either elephant or buffalo (and you wouldn't think it but buffalo is much much worse) then we would have a different task which normally was planting some sort of tree or grass for future elephant consumption we did day trips to the local school and there happened to be a murder suicide in the town the night before we left so we went to a Buddhist funeral as for the elephants, being so close to them all the time was enough to make this trip more than worth while. i let them know that i had some education towards animals so they let me medicate an elephants ... read more

Well a few days a go we booked a trip to see remote hilltribe villagers - the Maewang (they are rude), do some Elephant riding, some bamboo rafting and see a waterfall. We paid a bit more than some other tour guides becuase ours look after the elephants well. They have breaks, and they have an elephant hospital nearby. The also hire local tribes-people as some sort of scheme or another. (We're not really Eco- or Ethno-tourists) After the dozy guy taking another set of people on a completely different tour said "Yes" when we asked if he was going to Maewang and Sanpatong (He wasn't), we eventually got the right guide and all turned out well. Day 4 - Day 8 (13th - 17 July 2005) For the next five days, the sun rose early. After a hearty breakfast, Uncle Sam continued to explain the significance of building the dams. He wanted to make sure that everybody in the team understood and believed in it before proceeding to issue the equipment for the expedition. After a brief photo taking, the group of us together with the local villagers set off to our “Destination”.
