So here i am in Koh Samui. From the moment the boat set sail i was deeply regretting having to leave Koh Tao, however was grateful for the chance to give my liver a hard earned rest from drinking copious amounts of alcohol into the early hours every night. The boat journey was fun...the choice was either to sit out on deck and burn alive because of a lack of seats or to sit on a plastic stool in the aisle....great! Don't you just love the way that they overfill all forms of transport past capacity! So once off the boat we were ushered to vans which would take everyone onboard to their various destinations on the island. In my bus were a couple i met on the boat who are from Switzerland and are just ... read more

So the second day of diving in Koh Toa was an extremely memorable experience....WE SAW A WHALE SHARK!!!!! Not only was it an amazing sight but it was also a very rare one because some experienced divers who have completed hundreds of dives have never had the privilage of seeing one. As soon as we entered the water from the boat and looked down into the depths of the ocean below through our masks there it was. Surrounded by divers on either side the whale shark swam elegantly past. Once we decended into the ocean we had the privalege of seeing this wonderful animal 2 more times. Words simply cannot explain what an amazing experience it was! So back to the blog....after completing my PADI open water course i enroled on the advanced course so now ... read more

To play the video above, first... I'm sorry, but you'll have to turn down the poor audio, see control at bottom of video, centre. Coming from Cambodia into Thailand The Thai immigration offers a "30 day non-visa entry" but you must be careful because it's really only for 29 days and then they'll fine you $15 per day for overstaying. From the border I took a minibus to Trat, Thailand. A four dollar room in Trat is really basic with a shared bathroom. In Cambodia for five dollars you get a clean room with cable TV and a clean private bathroom. From Trat I planned to go to Koh Chang, the second largest island in Thailand, but it's raining season and my sea-legs are very poor especially in bad weather. A tropical island in the rain ... read more

Date of visit: December 18-22nd 2007. Introduction: For the research of this graduate project, I have chosen to visit four destinations within Thailand that I think will provide me with the data I need for my project. The first destination is Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. For this profile destination I will introduce Ubon Ratchathani as a province and as a destination. I will also show some typical 3-4 days packaged tour information to the destinations local cinema. Usually you will not find any because most tour operators operate on a fixed schedule and they would want to take advantage of natural resources as the main attraction to the destination. Traveling privately is different from taking part with a tour group. Private traveling gives more freedom to explore potential areas that are ... read more

We have arrived in Paradise! Well, sort of. Finding a serene and secluded tropical beach is a bit harder than we imagined... tourism and commercialism have really taken over Thailand, and there do not seem to be many regulations about how much is too much when it comes to developing the islands or protecting the natural environment. We were in search of that postcard perfect beach with like, only 5 other people on it. Ha! Fat chance. Before leaving Bangkok, we saw a sticker on the back of a bathroom door advertising a reggae guesthouse that was "off the beaten path", so we jumped on the opportunity. We succeeded in finding a "locals" beach, but the beach itself was covered in trash. Gross. Rumour has it that some of the islands up north near Cambodia are ... read more

I havent got too long here, but ill do my best to fill you in. We spent around 5 fun filled days in Ko Pahngan. Originally, we got the impression that Hat Rin (the party section of the island) , would be fully booked. Everyone wed met, including three chicks from the bus we took from Bangkok, were paying ridiculous prices in order to secure their place in Hat Rin. Having left it a little late, and not really wanting to fork out 1500 baht a night, we booked a place that was 30 minutes from Hat Rin on the west coast. Stepping off the ferry we caught a taxi in which we sit on the back of a truck and hold on. The place we arrived at was absolutely beautiful. Me and Luke named our ... read more

Well, moments ago I was with Riki. Now I am not. TRULY solo. Although I DO have a cell phone she is loaning me for emergencies, I actually have no more built in company. What an adventure! Of course the usual apprehension and a little sadness ensue...but actually I'm doing ok. Feeling connected to all of you as I write. True explorers and adventurers of course didn't have these luxuries, like computers/internet, and cell phones, even phones at all. But, we do what we can to see the beautiful places that cover this fascinating undulating vibrating planet without damaging it too much or leaving huge footprints. We ate at "Risotto", the first Italian restaraunt that I have patronized since being in Thailand. For the most part have been eating as much local food as possible, trying ... read more
